Landslide susceptibility modeling is an essential early step towards managing landslide risk. A minimum of $4.8 million is lost due to landslide related damages every year in Illawara region of Australia. At present, Data mining and knowledge discovery techniques are becoming popular in building landslide susceptibility models due to their enhanced predictive performances. Culture and creativity have never been found exclusively in urban domains, yet only recently have researchers begun to examine creative geographies beyond axiomatic creative cities from the global north. "A Band On Every Corner": Using Historical Gis To Describe Changes In The Sydney And Melbourne Live Music Scenes, Sarah Taylor, Colin Arrowsmith, Nicole T. Cook

This paper demonstrates the use of historical Geographic Information Systems (historical GIS) to investigate live music in Sydney and Melbourne. It describes the creation of a tailored historical geodatabase built from samples of gig listings (comprising dates, locations, and performer names), and how this historical geodatabase offers insight into the changing dynamics of performers and venue locations. The major findings from the analyses using the developed historical geodatabase are that neither city showed a decline in live music performance or performer numbers, but Melbourne increased at a greater rate than Sydney. This paper discusses a new blend of methods developed to answer the question of where creativity is in the city. Experimentation with new methods was required because of empirical short- comings with existing creative city research techniques; but also to respond to increasingly important questions of where nascent economic activities occur outside the formal sector, and governmental spheres of planning and economic development policy. This paper focuses on the involvement of CURS in a project aimed at developing an integrated GIS to facilitate inter-agency data sharing and analysis so as to enhance the planning and provision of family services in the Hunter. The paper focuses on the process of developing the 'soft technologies of engagement' necessary to facilitate the co-operative data-sharing between key government human services agencies that must underpin an integrated GIS. These soft technologies are required to address the ethical, procedural and technical challenges of data sharing and, more intangibly, to manage the organisation and institutional barriers to inter-agency data sharing. In this paper, attention is drawn to GIS-based techniques for mapping and risk assessment for slopes and landslides. The authors focus on an approach developed recently for mapping of geology and slope stability in the Northern Illawarra (or the Northern Suburbs of Greater Wollongong Area) in New South Wales, Australia. A modern land instability risk assessment procedure must include an accurate geological framework and land instability database. Geological and land instability mapping of the northern suburbs of the City of Wollongong represents a considerable challenge and is to be achieved using computer generated 1:4000 topographic base maps. Using an integrated series of techniques, including computer modelling of the escarpment geology and field mapping techniques, a new series of geological maps has been produced.
