Many electronic database systems popular with libraries have migrated to a Web-based interface. Dow Jones Interactive, DialogWeb, LEXIS-NEXIS, and STN have all recently come out with Web databases or new versions of existing Web products. Brief evaluations of each are presented.

Full Text Searching On Major Supermarket Systems: Dialog, Nexis, And Datastar., Carol Tenopir, Sharon Berglund

The largest online vendors of full-text sources to general libraries, DIALOG, Data-Star and NEXIS, are described and compared. DIALOG offers the largest number of full-text sources and the best set-building search techniques, but does not offer automatic searching of inconsistent text such as plurals or spelling equivalencies as do the others. Data-Star has the strongest European focus and information on chemistry, pharmacy and medicine. NEXIS has the most user-friendly search language and superior display features and the greatest number of unique titles.

Change is constant in legal research. Plucknett's work describes, for example, the modem textbook replacing published case reports as the most important form of legal literature. More recently, A.B.W. Simpson has argued that the law review article has displaced the treatise. Apart from these changes, the law itself has continued to embrace concepts from other disciplines and deal with facts and methodologies of an increasingly technological society.
