Hooves For Hope: Equine Assisted Psychotherapy As A Modality For Social And Emotional Learning In At-Risk Youth, Mattie H. Hyland
Hooves For Hope: Equine Assisted Psychotherapy As A Modality For Social And Emotional Learning In At-Risk Youth, Mattie H. Hyland
Psychology Doctoral Specialization Projects
The purpose of this paper is to educate its readers on the utility of Equine Assisted Psychotherapy; an emerging modality of mental health treatment and to introduce a new program model for utilization of this treatment with at-risk youth. This paper is particularly focused on the use of this modality to facilitate social and emotional learning in at-risk youth. It begins by establishing the reasons that mental health providers, and American citizens on the whole, should be concerned with at-risk youth as well as defining what this term “at-risk youth” means within the context of this paper. In order to …
Attitudes Of Therapists Surrounding Sand Tray Therapy With Adults, Madalyn Cooke
Attitudes Of Therapists Surrounding Sand Tray Therapy With Adults, Madalyn Cooke
Theses and Dissertations--Family Sciences
Sand tray therapy provides a unique experience for adults and children to interact with their experiences and feelings from a distance. However, it is not used as frequently as talk therapy techniques in adult therapeutic treatment. The following thesis explores therapists’ attitudes about using sand trays with adults. A qualitative thematic analysis suggests that while some therapists deem sand trays as helpful with treatment, especially for clients who have a history of trauma, there are barriers for therapists to overcome in order to incorporate sand trays more frequently into practice with adult clientele.
Your Problem Or Our Problem: How Clients' Evaluation Of The Problem Affects Therapeutic Progress In Therapy, Claire Elizabeth Nickell
Your Problem Or Our Problem: How Clients' Evaluation Of The Problem Affects Therapeutic Progress In Therapy, Claire Elizabeth Nickell
Theses and Dissertations--Family Sciences
As systems theory has become the foundation of interpreting family interactions in therapy, it has become apparent that taking a systemic approach correlates with improved client growth and satisfaction outcomes. Clients’ systemic orientation to their problems may be influential in determining these outcomes in therapy. Thus, this study focused on how client’s systemic agreement can impact the outcomes of therapy and problem progress. We had 968 partnered individuals with differing economic backgrounds, education levels, and religious backgrounds participated in the study, as well as couples from age 18-72 with the mean age of 31.3. The couples’ SES ranged from below …
Psychedelic-Assisted Therapy: Support For The Rebus Hypothesis And Its Application To Specific Psychiatric Illnesses, Wren Cilimburg
Psychedelic-Assisted Therapy: Support For The Rebus Hypothesis And Its Application To Specific Psychiatric Illnesses, Wren Cilimburg
CMC Senior Theses
For centuries, psychedelic substances have been a part of human culture. Classic psychedelics such as LSD and psilocybin are characterized by their agonism of 5HT-2A receptors, and recent clinical trials have found that these substances hold great promise for treating mental disorders. Neurobiological evidence supports the recent theory that psychedelic-assisted therapy works by increasing neuroplasticity and allowing for the revision of maladaptive predictions. This theory is called the REBUS hypothesis, and it is situated within a predictive processing model of cognition. There is evidence that individuals with mental disorders such as depression, addiction, and eating disorders have a diminished ability …
Best Practices For Social Workers Engaging With Spiritual/Religious Clients, Stewart J. Smith Mr.
Best Practices For Social Workers Engaging With Spiritual/Religious Clients, Stewart J. Smith Mr.
Theses and Dissertations (Comprehensive)
This research examined what Canadian social workers should consider when engaging therapeutically with clients for whom spirituality/religion is of central importance. There are several challenges in examining this issue in Canada (the north section of Turtle Island). One is the oppression of Indigenous peoples’ spirituality by colonizers imposing various Christian denominational spiritual/religious views. There has also been a trend of Christian practice declining in church worship among settler people, although Christianity remains part of the dominant cultural norms. Like many of the helping professions, social work has little to no education/training related to spirituality/religion and clinical work. This move away …
