The Burgeoning Information Universe: Implication For Social Work Education And Practice, Sarah C. Johnson Mslis, Lmsw, Margaret Bausman Lcsw-R, Mslis, Sarah Laleman Ward Mlis, Ma

Publications and Research

The information universe is fierce and ubiquitous, replete with a 24 hour news cycle, trolls, bots, fake news, predatory publishers, and paywalls. The exponential acceleration in access to information during these nascent years of the 21st century is simultaneously a victory for egalitarianism and promotion of social equity as well as a daunting hotbed for scurrilous and obfuscated resources requiring discerning and supple information literacy skills to efficiently and effectively navigate an ever burgeoning wealth of knowledge. Creating A Hip In The Library: A High-Impact Practice Case Study, Susan E. Montgomery

Faculty Publications

High-impact practices, HIPs, have been adopted on college campuses to enhance student learning. The academic library provides services and space contributing to learning at its institution. Librarians conduct space research to learn how the library building can better serve its users. Library space assessment is one way for librarians to engage with faculty and students to create a HIP in the library. This article is a case study of a collaboration between a librarian and a sociology professor to design an observational study. It demonstrates how librarians can contribute to HIPs at their institution by involving students in meaningful research.

Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)

Information is a nervous system for the teacher and researcher, without the information they cannot teach and generate new information in an academic institute. The information and communication technology tools have changed the mode of communication and availability of information in a digital environment. In this study, efforts have been made to study the use and awareness of e-resources by the engineering faculties of NMIMS (Deemed to be University), Mumbai. The result shows that majority of the faculty members i.e. 85.71 % access e-resources for the research and learning purpose, it is also found that busy schedule in the institute …

Library Faculty Publications

Today’s academic libraries must be able to communicate efficiently the depth of their resources to all campus communities, and Stony Brook University Libraries have worked to apply instructional methods to a broad spectrum of users. Our library has been using emerging technology, open access resources, and innovative teaching methods to engage with our local and global student and faculty community. Using our campus in South Korea as an example, we will highlight a number of strategies developed for delivering equitable information instruction sessions to our international students at satellite campuses across the world. Adventures In Rightsizing : Enhancing Discovery And Research With Open Access Journals In The University Library, Barbara M. Pope

Faculty Submissions

Academic libraries have long had print journal collections to support the university’s discovery and research needs. However, they are also continually challenged with needs for relevant content, cost control, and space issues; some academic libraries have downsized their print journal collections as a result. Many academic libraries are replacing some print journal subscriptions with online subscriptions and supplementing with open access journals. Pittsburg State University’s (PSU) Axe Library faces the challenge of providing journal access in order to support the university’s needs and stay on budget. To that end, PSU drastically weeded its print journals in 2016 and later began …
