This study analyzes the term of address ustad in Indonesian culture. Indonesia’s religious-themed movies may represent the use of the term of address ustad in daily conversation. In particular, this study aims to describe the patterns of form, the patterns of use, and the social values of the term of address ustad in film utterances. Beside accepted with surprise across the world, the winning of Brexit referendum also brings up the tangled web into the United Kingdom’s political and cultural realms. Recent studies mention there is correlation between the voting behavior and issues of identity, immigration, and Islamophobia. Kamila Shamsie alludes these issues in her latest novel, Home Fire (2017). By focusing on three main protagonists, this close-textual analysis examines how Pakistani diasporic community construct their identities within the novel. Following the dissolution of Masyumi in 1960, the political climate was rather unfriendly for the Islamic movement in Indonesia. Since 1959, Muhammadiyah had given up its special membership status in Masyumi, while some of its administrators pursued political careers elsewhere. Muhammadiyah maintained good relations with Soekarno, notably after Soekarno’s speech in Muhammadiyah’s 35th National Congress in 1962.
