This research looks at the relevance of Dublin to Joyce’s writings and to the relevance of Joyce’s writings to Dublin. It is concerned with the virtual Dublin of Joyce’s writings, the physical manifestation of Dublin over time, and the relationships between them.

This study looks at the incorporation of video game design and structure into contemporary slot machines. The investigation was guided by theoretical and empirical works from a range of scholarly fields: gambling studies, video-game studies, digital communication, psychology, and sociology. The first phase used a content analysis that identified the distribution of video-game styles and design in the most recent slot games on display at a major industry conference. Background—Although many studies indicate that maternal smoking during pregnancy (SDP) is correlated with later offspring antisocial behavior (ASB), recent quasi-experimental studies suggest that background familial factors confound the association. The present study sought to test alternative etiological hypotheses using multiple indices of adolescent ASB, comparing differentially exposed siblings, and testing assumptions in the sibling-comparison design.

The NASA Arctic Research of the Composition of the Troposphere from Aircraft and Satellites (ARCTAS) mission was conducted in two 3-week deployments based in Alaska (April 2008) and western Canada (June–July 2008). Its goal was to better understand the factors driving current changes in Arctic atmospheric composition and climate, including (1) influx of mid-latitude pollution, (2) boreal forest fires, (3) aerosol radiative forcing, and (4) chemical processes. I examine the varying degrees of IP rights in those fields, and ask whether the differing levels of rights are appropriate to keep these industries creative, innovative and robust. I further examine the salient characteristics of those rights and ask whether such an understanding might help to determine optimal levels of IP protection in other creative industries.

This user-centered design approach also informs energetic fundraising strategies which produce $32.8 million in multi-year State appropriations and cash contributions. In this paper, we consider a novel optimal design for per-subcarrier antenna selection multi-input multi-output orthogonal frequency division multiplexing systems from an energy-efficiency perspective. The optimal number of antennas, i.e., the number of radio frequency chains, that needs to be built-in on a transmitter to achieve the maximum energy-efficiency is determined. Specifically, an optimization problem for maximizing the average energy-efficiency with respect to the number of antennas is formulated. In order to determine the second-order modal interaction of the system, a new index on nonlinearity is developed using normal form theory.
