User Interface Design Evaluation For L-Thia Watershed Analysis Tool., Lakshya Garg, Larry Theller, Yichen Zhong

Purdue GIS Day

This project is a semester-long analysis of the user interface deign of the ABE web-Based Decision support tool "L-THIA Watershed Management System". The goal is to evaluate the components such as user inputs, logical flow, graphical display, navigation, operational feasibility and technical feasibility. The process includes comparison to the interface of other of other well-known online mapping web tools. The student team will be evaluating under GIS specialist Larry Theller (Purdue ABE) some other online watershed analysis tools. The result of this study will be incorporated in the next phase of tool development for L-thia and several other ABE web …

Vehicle Routing Problem With Stochastic Demand (Vrpsd): Optimisation By Neighbourhood Search Embedded Adaptive Ant Algorithm (Ns-Aaa), M Nagalakshmi, Mukul Tripathi, Nagesh Shukla, Manoj Tiwari

Nagesh Shukla

Taking into account the real world applications, this paper considers a vehicle routing problem with stochastic demand (VRPSD) in which the customer demand has been modelled as a stochastic variable. Considering the computational complexity of the problem and to enhance the algorithm performance, a neighbourhood search embedded adaptive ant algorithm (ns-AAA) is proposed as an improvement to the existing ant colony optimisation. The proposed metaheuristic adapts itself to maintain an adequate balance between exploitation and exploration throughout the run of the algorithm. The performance of the proposed methodology is benchmarked against a set of test instances that were generated using …

Adhd: Maladaptive Disorder Or Evolutionary Adaptation, Jeremiah Hopes Mar 2015

Adhd: Maladaptive Disorder Or Evolutionary Adaptation, Jeremiah Hopes

National Youth Advocacy and Resilience Conference

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder influences disruptive behavior, school suspensions, and at times, even criminal behavior. Despite its maladaptive nature, evolutionary psychology introduces the possibility that ADHD once served a purpose to humanity. This presentation will examine research that presents the symptoms of ADHD as adaptive rather than maladaptive, analyze the implications of viewing inattention, impulsivity, and hyperactivity as strengths, and discuss how parents, teachers, helping professionals, school administrators, and physicians can use this information to assist children impacted by ADHD.

Development Of An Mre Adaptive Tuned Vibration Absorber With Self-Sensing Capability, Shuaishuai Sun, Jian Yang, Weihua Li, Huaxia Deng, Haiping Du, Gursel Alici Jan 2015

Development Of An Mre Adaptive Tuned Vibration Absorber With Self-Sensing Capability, Shuaishuai Sun, Jian Yang, Weihua Li, Huaxia Deng, Haiping Du, Gursel Alici

Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences - Papers: Part A

In this paper, self-sensing technology was introduced into an adaptive tuned vibration absorber, incorporating a laminated magnetorheological elastomer (MRE) structure, a hybrid magnetic system and a self-sensing component. The adoption of the laminated MRE structure and the hybrid magnetic system enables the absorber to have higher lateral flexibility and a wider effective frequency range. The integration of the self-sensing capability allows the absorber to operate without sensors and, at the same time, greatly reduces costs, required space and maintenance. A series of experiments were conducted to measure the frequency shift property, to verify the self-sensing capability and to evaluate its …

Towards Bringing Adaptive Micro Learning Into Mooc Courses, Geng Sun, Tingru Cui, Kuanching Li, Dongming Xu, Shiping Chen, Jun Shen, Wanwu Guo

Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences - Papers: Part A

In this paper we illustrate a proposal with regard to providing learners adaptive micro learning experiences, which can be fulfilled within fragmented time pieces. The framework of our system is demonstrated, while it aims to deliver customized micro learning contents taking into account learners’ specific demands, learning styles, preference and context.
