The Americans With Disabilities Act Compliance And Library Acquisitions, Angela Dresselhaus

Angela Dresselhaus

The move from print to electronic materials was the catalyst for many changes in the library community. Libraries have reorganized staff to accommodate electronic workflows, have grappled with digital preservation and have considered the changing roles of libraries in digital scholarship. Vendors have developed electronic resource management systems, link resolvers, discovery layers, and other tools to help libraries manage the transition from print to electronic collections. Pda, Circulation, And Over-Budget Requests: Harnessing Data To Inform Library Strategies, Antje Mays

Dacus Library Faculty Publications

This article presents the data-rich findings of an experiment with enlisting patron-driven/demand-driven acquisitions (DDA) of ebooks in two ways. The first experiment entailed comparison of DDA eBook usage against newly ordered hardcopy materials’ circulation, both overall and ebook vs. print usage within the same subject areas. Secondly, this study experimented with DDA ebooks as a backup plan for unfunded requests left over at the end of the fiscal year.

Technical Services Assessment In Pennsylvania Academic Libraries (Presentation), Rebecca L. Mugridge

University Libraries Faculty Scholarship

Academic libraries regularly conduct assessment of library services through the use of rubrics or assessment tools such as LibQual™. Technical services activities are frequently assessed; however, the assessment is typically limited to the evaluation of specific processes. This study was designed to explore assessment activities in Pennsylvania’s academic libraries. The author designed a survey to investigate whether technical services activities are assessed, how they are assessed, who is responsible for assessment of technical services, how the results of assessment activities are shared with others, and how those results are used to improve services or for other purposes.

Public Or Private? Reconsidering Ownership And Value Of State Legislators’ Papers, Brian Keough, Elizabeth A. Novara

University Libraries Faculty Scholarship

Unlike congressional and presidential papers collections, which have a rich archival literature in support of their acquisition and management, archivists and researchers frequently overlook and undervalue state legislators’ papers. One reason for undervaluing state legislators’ papers is the lack of legal guidelines in most states for ownership of these political papers. This article presents the results of a broad survey of state laws and collecting policies within state archives regarding the collecting of state legislators’ papers. Overall, archivists, lawmakers, and the general public need to become more aware of the value of state legislators’ papers, pass laws that protect and …
