Adolescents With Learning And Behavioral Handicaps As Behavior Modifiers, Suzanne Fitch Edd
Adolescents With Learning And Behavioral Handicaps As Behavior Modifiers, Suzanne Fitch Edd
Dissertations
Groups have been taught to use behavior modification procedures to train individuals with mental handicaps, including individuals who themselves have mental handicaps. This study extended the previous work in this area in three ways: (a) a new group, namely adolescents with learning and behavioral handicaps, was taught to use behavior modification skills; (b) these adolescents were trained to perform a more extensive role as behavior modifiers than has previously been demonstrated for mentally handicapped individuals; and (c) generalization of the behavior modification skills was examined across tasks and individuals. Assessment was made of the effectiveness of the adolescents' training as …
A Descriptive Correlational Study Of The Decision-Making Patterns Of Nurse Practitioners In Primary Care, Rosemary Goodyear Edd
A Descriptive Correlational Study Of The Decision-Making Patterns Of Nurse Practitioners In Primary Care, Rosemary Goodyear Edd
Dissertations
The purpose of this dissertation was to investigate the decision-making patterns of nurse practitioners and the relationship between this cognitive process and their personal characteristics and dimensions of employment. Since nurse practitioners are a major group of providers of primary care, they are faced with increasingly complex patient care decisions regarding the health management of these patients. The premise that the decision-making process is influenced by factors within the individual and the work environment formed the basis for this investigation. The determination of the significant relationships among these variables was pursued for the expansion of knowledge and the practical applications …
The Use Of Computer-Assisted Instruction In A Biblical Studies Course: A Case Study, Joseph P. Gallen Edd
The Use Of Computer-Assisted Instruction In A Biblical Studies Course: A Case Study, Joseph P. Gallen Edd
Dissertations
One purpose of this case study was to determine the effect of the introduction of computer-assisted instruction (CAI) materials upon students' learning ability in a college Biblical studies course. Another purpose was to gather information from students with regard to their attitudes toward CAI and its effectiveness in learning the course material. A third purpose of the study was the design of CAI materials using a general application software package. The data base and word processing functions of a general application software package were adapted for CAI in the Biblical studies course. The CAI components employed in the Biblical studies …
The Free Negro In Illinois Prior To The Civil War, 1818-1860, Steven J. Savery
The Free Negro In Illinois Prior To The Civil War, 1818-1860, Steven J. Savery
Masters Theses
Free Negroes embodied one of the great dilemmas in the ante-bellum history of the state of Illinois. Nominally a free state, Illinois endeavored mightily to suppress, exclude, and dispose of a class of people who were the ultimate result of the anti-slavery movement. While a majority of Illinoisans deemed the peculiar institution undesirable, they had no intention of accepting free Negroes as equal citizens. Free blacks were often regarded as dangerous and a menace to the well-being of the entire society. Yet, Illinois reconciled its apparently contradictory views on slavery and the free Negro to a remarkable degree.
The reconciliation …

A Study Of The Correlation Between The Degree Of Acculturation And Scholastic Achievement And English Gain Of Esl Students, Grades 2-5, Beach School, Portland, Oregon, Rhona R. Blackton

A Comparison Of Theory And Life Experiences In Heteroculturality, Sara June Harper
Dissertations and Theses
This study is a comparison of theory and specific life experiences in heteroculturality. A Multidimensional Analysis Of Physical Attractiveness In The Formation Of First Impressions, Jewel Marianna Smith Hunter
A Multidimensional Analysis Of Physical Attractiveness In The Formation Of First Impressions, Jewel Marianna Smith Hunter
Dissertations and Theses
Before any words are spoken, an individual's appearance is his or her first line of nonverbal communication with the rest of the world. Prior research conducted on physical attractiveness has been vague and contradictory and has not assessed its many components. Rather, past investigators have perceived physical attractiveness as a "unidimensional" concept.
Several phases were involved in the task of proving or disproving the hypotheses of the study. The first general phase began with the selection of photographic subjects, progressed into the creation of a set of photographs which were to become the stimuli, and proceeded to the selection of …
Normative Teacher And Student Role Behaviors In The U.S. With A Contrast To Japan, Kathleen Ulrich
Normative Teacher And Student Role Behaviors In The U.S. With A Contrast To Japan, Kathleen Ulrich
Dissertations and Theses
The purpose of this thesis is to (1) discover normative U.S. classroom teacher and student role behaviors; (2) contrast these to one other culture, Japan and (3) anticipate the difficulties both teachers and students would face if placed in a culturally mixed class unaware of the cultural differences between them. This study also (4) extends the issues theoretically beyond the cultural differences between the U.S. and Japan to other cultures.
Humor Creation And Appreciation As An Indicator Of Intercultural Communication Effectiveness : Toward A Theoretical Model, Richard D. Tavano
Humor Creation And Appreciation As An Indicator Of Intercultural Communication Effectiveness : Toward A Theoretical Model, Richard D. Tavano
Dissertations and Theses
A review of the theoretical and empirical literature from the field of humor and from that of intercultural communication showed that no investigations dealt with the possibility that a sense of humor might serve as an indicator of intercultural communication effectiveness. This study was conducted in order to assess that possibility.
This paper has set out to answer the following questions: What cognitive processes are common to a sense of humor and to intercultural communication effectiveness? What does one's ability to create and appreciate humor say about that individual's potential for intercultural communication effectiveness? Through the review of the literature, …
