In the West, Muslims are regarded with anxiety, mistrust, and fear. Many of us choose not to travel to Muslim countries for fear of becoming victims of terrorism. Most westerners worry about the Muslims' firm grip on the spigot of the world's oil reserves. And in 1991 we convinced ourselves that Saddam Hussein represented a threat on par with Hitler.1

This Technical Bulletin provides information about the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986. The act was intended to further control the influx of illegal aliens into the U. S. through increased border enforcement. The act also prohibits employment of illegal aliens and aliens, such as tourists, who legally enter the country, but are not authorized to be employed here.

On November 6, 1986, the President signed into law immigration reform legislation. The new law (P.L. 99-603, "Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986" ) makes it unlawful for any person knowingly to hire, recruit or refer for a fee any alien not authorized to work. It also requires that employees comply with the employment verification system as outlined by the law.

Government workers at New York’s Ellis Island have been accused of murdering ancestral names to serve their own purposes and prejudices. Despite zero evidence to support this accusation, the myth stubbornly persists. They did not change names. They worked from manifests, which were governed by law.
