Integration Of And The Potential For Islamic Radicalization Among Ethnic Turks In Germany, Alev Dudek
Integration Of And The Potential For Islamic Radicalization Among Ethnic Turks In Germany, Alev Dudek
Alev Dudek
In spite of ongoing improvements, integration of ethnic Turks in Germany remains a challenge from the dominant culture perspective, whereas a deeply ingrained institutional and everyday racism and the lack of legal protection against discrimination pose a challenge to full participation of ethnic Turks from another perspective. In an increasingly xenophobic Europe, particularly Germany, an increase in potential for religious and nationalist radicalization in different groups including ethnic Turks is becoming more and more evident. This increase in radical attitudes is not necessarily caused by a lack of integration, as evidenced among well-integrated individuals.

Globalizacija I Ideologija U Evropskom Javnom Mnenju, Bojan Todosijević
Globalizacija I Ideologija U Evropskom Javnom Mnenju, Bojan Todosijević
Bojan Todosijević
The end of the XXth century witnessed a transformation of the view of international relations within broader ideological narratives of political Left and Right. The Left has become critical of globalization due to its association with economic liberalism. Resistance against the loss of cultural identity is increasing on the right, as well as the support for the globally expanding economic liberalism. What has remained unclear are the attitudes of the European citizens in this regard. This study analyzes the relationships between ideological self-identification and attitudes towards globalization. Despite certain variations, the results describe rightwing identifiers as more positive about globalization.
Vox Populi Or Vox Masculini? Populism And Gender In Northern Europe And South America, Cas Mudde, Cristobal Rovira Kaltwasser
Vox Populi Or Vox Masculini? Populism And Gender In Northern Europe And South America, Cas Mudde, Cristobal Rovira Kaltwasser
Cas Mudde
Conceptually, populism has no specific relationship to gender; in fact, gender differences, like all other differences within ‘the people’, are considered secondary, if not irrelevant, to populist politics. Yet populist actors do not operate in a cultural or ideological vacuum. So perhaps it is the national culture and broader ideology used by populists that determine their gender position. To explore this argument, we compare prototypical cases of contemporary populist forces in two regions: the Dutch Partij voor de Vrijheid (PVV, Party for Freedom) and the Dansk Folkeparti (DF, Danish People's Party) in Northern Europe, and the Partido Socialista Unido de …
Canadian Multiculturalism And The Absence Of The Far Right, Cas Mudde
Canadian Multiculturalism And The Absence Of The Far Right, Cas Mudde
Cas Mudde
The far right has never been a prominent force in Canadian politics or society. Traditionally, they more resembled the North American than the West European model: ideologically dominated by right-wing populism and white supremacy, organizationally characterized by factionalism and sectarianism. The extreme right seems an almost negligible force today, in part reflecting a similar decline in the United States, while the radical right has so far been unable to build upon the recent upsurge of Islamophobia, as in Western Europe. We argue that the failure of the Canadian radical right is primarily the result of Canada's unique multiculturalism policy, which …
