The aim of this paper is to analyze mood, epistemic and deontic modality patterns in an extract culled from Yellow-Yellow (2006) by one of the Nigerian new millennium female writer, Kaine Agary. The findings data revealed by the interpersonal meaning analysis are discussed against the backdrop of critical discourse analysis and womanist theory. The discussion contended that, despite the blend of monologic and dialogic organization of the novel, Kaine Agary has tried to portray the sociological schisms making up the daily life of young girls in the oil-resourced region of Nigeria. Following a severe traumatic brain injury (TBI) there is a complex presentation of psychological symptoms which may impact on recovery. Validated treatments addressing these symptoms for this group of people are limited. This article reports on the protocol for a single-centre, two-armed, Phase II Randomised Control Trial (RCT) to address the adjustment process following a severe TBI. Participants will be recruited from Liverpool Brain Injury Rehabilitation Unit and randomly allocated to one of two groups, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) or an active control (Befriending). Background This preliminary study examined the effectiveness of an Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) intervention at improving the quality of life among cancer patients. It was hypothesised that over the course of the intervention, patients would report increased psychological flexibility through acceptance of unpleasant thoughts and feelings, and that increased psychological flexibility would lead to improvements in distress, mood, and quality of life. Method Forty-five cancer patients participated in an ACT intervention. Outcome measures included self-reported distress, mood disturbance, psychological flexibility, and quality of life. This study evaluated the feasibility of a treatment program utilising Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) to address psychological adjustment to severe traumatic brain injury (TBI). ACT focuses on persons’ relationship with internal experiences such as thoughts, emotions and memories in order for them to live a life consistent with their values. Treatment goals include increasing psychological flexibility, participation in valued life roles and reducing psychological distress. The Organisation Engagement Survey (OES) was designed to measure engagement and its predictors (drivers) within a large retail travel organisation in Australia. It includes a specially-developed 5-item engagement scale (ES) and a forty-item 8-factor drivers-of-engagement scale (the eight factors are: senior leadership, team leadership, continuance, work support, work demands, employee empowerment, customer focus, financial rewards). Total reward plays a vital role in underpinning numerous issues many developing countries are grappling in regard to employee satisfaction and commitment. There is a general consensus that employee satisfaction and commitment is affected by total rewards. The prime intention of this study was to examine the effect of total rewards on employee satisfaction and commitment in Uganda. The study was primary data collected from 190 government employees in Agago district. All the findings were tested at 0.01 and 0.05 level of significance.
