Although marketing principles in theatre patronage are key in selling performances to a prospective audience, there is a dearth of research on it locally. Also, as observed, some theatre companies do not utilise these marketing principles in marketing their performances. Thus, they end up running at a loss and not satisfying the targeted audience members. To investigate this problem, this paper seeks to trace the evolution of theatre marketing from Ancient Greek to the present day. It also explores …

Philology Matters

Today, the media is divided into two major types: print and electronic. Text written for print media is significantly different from text written for radio, television, internet media. Accordingly, media texts cover several forms in terms of their specific features, ideological and technological aspects. Since reality in television language is usually expressed through images, a great deal of attention is paid to the power of the image. However, given the impossibility of achieving absolute efficiency with a dry image, there is a need for analysis of media texts.
The issue of language and style of the anchorperson (author) has a …

La Question Du Cinéma Populaire En Afrique Du Nord, Michel Serceau

Présence Francophone: Revue internationale de langue et de littérature

The different North African cinemas, which appeared after the independences and were the work of film directors trained in Europe, were, as a principle, an art-house cinema at odds with the classical cinema type. Presented at festivals very often, they were not really embraced by the national audiences, who were mainly consumers of popular productions, either western or Egyptian. But the production of genre films (especially comedies) which were very rare until the 1990s is increasing today, at least in Morocco. Their arrival at the top of the Moroccan box-office where they compete with the American blockbusters prove that the …

The Rhetoric Of Predictability: Reclaiming The Lay Ear In Music Copyright Infringement Litigation, Austin Padgett

The University of New Hampshire Law Review

[Excerpt] “Some things cannot be described. This is the theory that recent literary criticism has placed as its cornerstone. Philosopher-critic Roland Barthes identified this trend in his Mythologies, stating that critics often “suddenly decide that the true subject of criticism is ineffable, and criticism, as a consequence, unnecessary. Unfortunately, this view has become singular within the legal academy whenever an author discusses music copyright infringement analysis. It seems that scholars fear the thought of trusting a jury with such an “ineffable” subject as music and must propose alternatives, such as expert testimony, specialized courts, or mechanical analysis, that will diminish …

Those television viewers who have also reached out to their favorite television show websites have resulted in a new audience. Examining the programming genre of reality television, two constructs were developed and a written survey administered to a convenience sample of college freshmen. The construct "dual users" was created to examine the television audience that also visits television programming websites. Single users (those that only watch the television show) were compared to the …
