Upjohn Press

This book explores the differences and commonalities in growth experiences of two looming economic giants, China and India—countries that follow often-contrasting economic, social, and political paths as they struggle to achieve long-term prosperity for their billion-plus populations. The papers included within show that the economic and political realities in the two countries are quite different, and that these realities are deeply embedded in each country’s social framework. China and India are at markedly different stages of economic development but the challenges facing the two countries, unsurprisingly, diverge—not only because of the different stage of development each has reached, but also …

UNI PROUD Documents

This project aims to provide the future of queer activists of this campus a better picture of the roots of activism on this campus. I think of this project as my own personal version of The Celluloid Closet, but instead of old movies it's old Northern Iowan articles. There has always been resistance at UNI, and this document hopes to show that resistance. It is however by no means complete, as often resistance has to occur in the shadows. What this work is hours and hours of searching the archives of The Northern Iowan, for those brief snapshots …

Online streaming and video platforms have become a popular form of entertainment as opposed to traditional media like movies and TV shows. Similar to traditional media, viewers often relate to and form one-sided relationships with actors/creators, known as parasocial relationships. Actors and creators can then leverage that relationship to advertise and market products to their audience. The primary objective of this study was to understand if perceived credibility and loyalty towards a streamer fuel parasocial relationships and how perceived credibility and parasocial relationships with an online live streamer influence attitude towards a sponsored brand and purchasing intention. It was predicted …

Open Educational Resources

Helping students to envision working with a variety of clients and client systems is an essential component to the helping profession. The analysis allows a student to dig through what might be occurring in the case as well as focus on positives such as past successes or client strengths. This assists the student in developing a well-rounded case plan that considers the client circumstances, what resources are available in the student’s community, and thinking through what might happen if the …

Exploring Etymology Assignment Description, David Wolff Jan 2024

Exploring Etymology Assignment Description, David Wolff

Open Educational Resources - Teaching and Learning

The English language is a borrowed language, a blend of words from many languages from around the world. We see this in the various ways sounds are represented by letters and letter combinations. In transparent or shallow orthographies, there is high predictability and consistent letter-sound correspondence whereas in opaque or deep orthographies, there are many ways to spell the same sound as well as there are many sounds for the same spellings (Burkins & Yates, 2021; Moats, 2020). This assignment description is a guided inquiry for preservice teachers to explore the concept of etymology by watching and reflecting on six …
