Academic libraries are progressively using social media platform to connect users, felicitate services, promote resources, reach the outreach, and enhance visibility through online presence. Today’s urban youth and/or teens are at risk due to many socio-emotional factors standing in the way of their development. Libraries for many years have provided significant organizational support unto offering ways to counterattack the possibility of negative-related outcomes. Objectives: Cigarette smoking remains a major cause of death in China. Are health sciences libraries in China currently providing awareness, advocacy, or research support for the societal benefits of smoking reduction? Methods: Following institutional review board approval, Library contacts for Chinese schools of medicine, public health, and pharmacy were identified. A bilingual online survey was constructed to obtain respondents’ demographic detail and answers to questions about library resources and services that constitute academic awareness, advocacy, curriculum, or research support about tobacco and smoking. Health information activities essentially are geared towards raising people’s awareness on good health and holistic living, thereby reducing the risks of opportunistic illness. In this regard, a related health promotional activity was undertaken in four local communities in Southern Nigeria. The purpose was gingered by the compelling efforts made by various government bodies and NGOs to curb the scourging HIV/AIDS pandemic, particularly in local communities. Generally created by individual librarians and anchored to a physical space, library displays are often static, limited, and fleeting. However, these displays can evolve into wider, more affective, multi-dimensional, 21st century, virtual spaces by incorporating collaborative discourse between multiple librarians, by reaching out to the community for content, and by using technological tools, such as email, Google Drive, Google Images, QR codes, and social media. This paper presents a case study of the life of a library display from inception through execution.
