This was my first publication. At age eleven in 1949. I found it in a box in a closet. It is a hoot. The setting was Dayville, a factory village in northeastern Connecticut. World War II was gone, but the Korean War hadn't come yet.

My chief connections to the outside world were comic books (a great many), radio programs (no television yet), and newspapers (the Worcester Gazette and the Norwich Bulletin were delivered to the house each day).

Starring in both comics and radio of the time was Captain Midnight, whose Secret Squadron was a great hit. The radio …
