OBJECTIVE: The electroencephalogram (EEG) has been widely used in AD/HD research. The current study firstly aimed to replicate a recent trend related to EEG theta/beta ratio (TBR) in children and adolescents. Also, the study aimed to examine the value of resting EEG activity as biomarkers for executive function (EF) in participants with AD/HD. METHOD: Fifty-three participants with AD/HD and 37 healthy controls were recruited. Resting EEG was recorded with eyes closed. Participants with AD/HD additionally completed EF tasks via the Cambridge Neuropsychological Test Automated Battery. RESULTS: TBR did not differ between groups; however, TBR was positively correlated with inattentive symptoms …

It was first discovered about 35 years ago, and it took an extended period of time for its multiple functions to be revealed, and even today we do not yet fully understand all the details. Given evidence that early executive functioning sets the stage for a broad range of subsequent outcomes, researchers have sought to identify ways to foster these cognitive capacities. The current series of studies sought to design, develop, and provide evidence for the efficacy of embedding cognitive activities in a commonplace activity-shared reading of a children's book. The book, Quincey Quokka's Quest, required children to control their thinking and behavior to help the story's main character through a series of obstacles. We consider the motion of convex surfaces with normal speed given by arbitrary strictly monotone, homogeneous degree one functions of the principal curvatures (with no further smoothness assumptions). We prove that such processes deform arbitrary uniformly convex initial surfaces to points in finite time, with spherical limiting shape. This result was known previously only for smooth speeds. The crucial new ingredient in the argument, used to prove convergence of the rescaled surfaces to a sphere without requiring smoothness of the speed, is a surprising hidden divergence form structure in the evolution of certain curvature quantities.

Political leaders increasingly perceive health as being crucial to achieving growth, development, equity and stability throughout the world. Health is now understood as a product of complex and dynamic relations generated by numerous determinants at different levels of governance. Governments need to take into account the impact of social, environmental and behavioural health determinants, including economic constraints, living conditions, demographic changes and unhealthy lifestyles in many of the World Health Organization (WHO) Member States. This understanding and increasing globalization means it is very timely to review the role of (global) public health in this changing societal and political environment.

Despite the prominent role of executive functions in children's emerging competencies, there remains debate regarding the structure and development of executive functions. In an attempt to reconcile these discrepancies, a differentiation model of executive function development was evaluated in the early years using 6-month age groupings. Specifically, 281 preschoolers completed measures of working memory, inhibition, and shifting. Results contradicted suggestions that executive functions follow a single trajectory of progressive separation in childhood, instead suggesting that these functions may undergo a period of integration in the preschool years. We consider the evolution of compact surfaces by fully nonlinear, parabolic curvature ows for which the normal speed is given by a smooth, degree one homogeneous function of the principal curvatures of the evolving surface. Under no further restrictions on the speed function, we prove that initial surfaces on which the speed is positive become weakly convex at a singularity of the flow. This generalises the corresponding result [26] of Huisken and Sinestrari for the mean curvature ow to the largest possible class of degree one homogeneous surface flows.

In this paper we investigate the flow of hypersurfaces by a class of symmetric functions of the principal curvatures with a mixed volume constraint. We consider compact hypersurfaces without boundary that can be written as a graph over a sphere. The linearisation of the resulting fully nonlinear PDE is used to prove a short-time existence theorem for hypersurfaces that are sufficiently close to a sphere and, using centre manifold analysis, the stability of the sphere as a stationary solution to the flow is determined. A typical casein micelle contains thousands of casein molecules, most of which form thermodynamically stable complexes with nanoclusters of amorphous calcium phosphate. Like many other unfolded proteins, caseins have an actual or potential tendency to assemble into toxic amyloid fibrils, particularly at the high concentrations found in milk. Fibrils do not form in milk because an alternative aggregation pathway is followed that results in formation of the casein micelle. As a result of forming micelles, nutritious milk can be secreted and stored without causing either pathological calcification or amyloidosis of the mother's mammary tissue. Simultaneous integrated boost (SIB) for prostate cancer allows increases in tumor control probability while respecting normal tissue dose constraints. Biological optimization functions that optimize based on treatment outcome can be used to create SIB prostate plans. This study investigates the feasibility of biologically optimized volumetric modulated arc therapy (VMAT) for SIB prostate radiotherapy. Methods. Five prostate cancer patients with diffusion-weighted MR images were selected for analysis. In this paper, a team situation awareness measure (TSAM) method using a semantic utility function is proposed. We obtain general theorems which enable the calculation of the Dixmier trace in terms of the asymptotics of the zeta function and of the trace of the heat semigroup. We prove our results in a general semi-finite von Neumann algebra. We find for p > 1 that the asymptotics of the zeta function determines an ideal strictly larger than Lp,∞ on which the Dixmier trace may be defined. We also establish stronger versions of other results on Dixmier traces and zeta functions.
