After several years of planning, the Thomas G. Carpenter Library received the funding to transform the first and second floors of the library, enabling us to increase seating capacity and create a modern showcase of collaborative learning spaces. This talk addressed the practical matters of moving and caring for the library's art collection during such a project and highlighted the new space, collaboration stations, interior design, furniture, and new sculptures.

Psychology Faculty Research and Scholarship

Scientists are trained to evaluate and interpret evidence without bias or subjectivity. Thus, growing evidence revealing a gender bias against women—or favoring men—within science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) settings is provocative and raises questions about the extent to which gender bias may contribute to women’s underrepresentation within STEM fields. To the extent that research illustrating gender bias in STEM is viewed as convincing, the culture of science can begin to address the bias. However, are men and women equally receptive to this type of experimental evidence? This question was tested with three randomized, double-blind experiments—two involving samples from the …

Psychology Faculty Research and Scholarship

The modern business environment requires managers to make effective decisions in a dynamic and uncertain world. How can such dynamic decision making (DDM) improve? The current study investigated the effects of brief training aimed at improving DDM skills in a virtual DDM task. The training addressed the DDM process, stressed the importance of self-reflection in DDM, and provided 3 self-reflective questions to guide participants during the task. Additionally, we explored whether participants low or high in self-reflection would perform better in the task and whether participants low or high in self-reflection would benefit more from the training.
