With rising costs and limited resources, it has become increasingly important for academic libraries to make acquisition decisions prudently to build a collection that meets its users' learning, teaching, and research needs. As such, Singapore Management University's (“SMU”) Libraries use a patron-driven acquisitions process, whereby acquisition decisions are guided by users' needs and requests. This article seeks to investigate if the current patron-driven acquisitions approach adequately meets the research needs of SMU's users through a mixed methods approach. Currently due to the rise of the new open scholarly metadata, a lot can be obtained using open data. For instance Title / author / abstract metadata is available in Crossref, references are freely available via many sources such as Crossref itself, Microsoft Academic, Pubmed and Altmetrics data is available via the Crossref Event data. One of the approaches gaining ground in policy design is the implementation of combinations of policy measures as policy packages with the aim of increasing efficiency and effectiveness of the designed policies. In this paper, we describe the recent advancements in the developments of a virtual environment for the exploration and analysis of policy packages. The virtual environment uses an agent-based modelling approach for the generation of different configurations of policy measures in the policy packages. As smartphone ownership rises, usage patterns are expanding. Libraries face an increasing demand for online content delivered in a mobile compatible format while being constrained by financial and staffing limitations. Solutions are readily available through free and low-cost products to create mobile web pages and existing design models from which to draw inspiration. Platform-specific apps can easily support the kinds of content most commonly delivered on library mobile pages: basic contact information and outbound links to the catalog, databases, and other resources. Barbie Keiser, Information Resource Management Consultant, conducted a one day workshop titled “Substance beyond style: Marketing library and information services in the 21st century” in Singapore on 15 October. The workshop was organized by the Library Association of Singapore and the Singapore Management University. It was held at the Reading Room, Li Ka Shing Library, Singapore Management University. Ms. Keiser noted that she did her first marketing workshop in Singapore in 1989 and was pleased to be back twenty years later.
