In this case study, we cover Research Data Management (RDM) policy development at SMU, the implementation of SMU’s Research Data Repository. The outreach and engagement carried out at the launch and subsequently. We reflect on what we learnt in the process. We also did a pilot feasibility study of using Figshare as a paper repository and report on our findings.

Libraries face challenges in playing roles and how they can show value in the research cycle of their institution. The presentation will show how the Singapore Management University (SMU) Libraries play a part in the research publications system and how it showcases SMU publications and also provides the full text where possible in the SMU repository called InK. Some examples of how the information is used and what faculty think about having their publications in InK will be shared. The Library is also involved in providing publications metrics.

This two-part presentation will cover the SMU institutional repository and the IRIS Publications system module. SMU launched the institutional repository in January 2010 and has grown the collections since. The IRIS Publications system module was launched in January 2016 with an integrated workflow in acquiring, organizing and disseminating faculty publications. The Library will share the road to building a successful repository, interfacing with the IRIS Publications system module, while embracing the principles of open access.

The Singapore Management University started implementing a new solution for Integrated Research Information System (IRIS) in April 2014. Project background and some success factors is covered. IRIS would replace existing silo in-house systems. The key objective of IRIS is to have one system that takes care of ethics, research project management, grant management, publications and reporting. During the IRIS project implementation, the tasks performed included mapping of existing fields to the new IRIS and loading of existing data to IRIS test system. New workflows and some re-configuration of the default system were proposed.

Biography:

Founding University Librarian, SMU, 2005–2011

Ruth A. Pagell served as SMU’s first University Librarian from June 2005 until February 2011. During her time at SMU she led the effort to create a 21st century academic library recognised for enabling university research and teaching. She oversaw the implementation of the digital library (PYXIS) and the institutional repository (InK), and the development of the oral history site. After leaving SMU in February 2011, she moved …
