“Domestic Violence in Immigrant Communities: Case Studies” is a freely accessible eCampus Ontario Pressbook containing case studies of immigrant women experiencing domestic violence to be used as educational materials. The contents were created by analysing closed legal case files of 15 immigrant women living in Ontario who experienced domestic violence. The comprehensive case studies that emerged from this research present domestic violence experienced by immigrant women in all its complexity, highlighting their unique vulnerability at the intersections of race, gender and immigration status. This qualitative study was to understand Register Early Childhood Educators (RECE) perspectives and beliefs about risky play in outdoor childcare settings. The researcher conducted five semi-structured interviews to gain insight and provide a voice for RECEs to share their examples and opinions about risky play. Based on the analysis of the data collected the researcher found five main themes; benefits to skill development for young children, safety, educators’ values and beliefs, educators’ opinions on parents’ views and the outdoor environment. This study examined the observations and experiences of parents whose children receive additional outdoor play time in a Forest School setting. The researchers used a qualitative methodology with online narrative interviews of 15 questions; participants took approximately 15 minutes to complete. 22 parents whose children attended two Forest Schools (one in the Region of Waterloo and one in Wellington County) completed the interviews. The researchers completed this study to better understand why parents chose to enroll their child in a Forest School and how they believed Forest Schools benefited their child. 77% believed that time spent in nature is beneficial …

This research revolved around investigating educators’ perspectives on communication and relationship building between themselves and English as second language families. This qualitative study followed a narrative research design, incorporating semi-structured interviews, to uncover educators’ opinions and experiences of their interactions and communication with these families, and to report on the challenges and difficulties that were present. This qualitative study used a narrative research design to explore how a parent plays a key role in their child’s level of outdoor play, and the factors they consider during their child's engagement in it. In this quantitative study, the purpose was to explore the factors that prevent parents of children aged 0-12 in the Region of Peel from enrolling their children into extracurricular activities. This was explored through the sub-themes of parent’s perceived benefits of extracurricular activities, parental influences, and income as a factor. Through these themes, it helped answer the main research question of, “What are the factors that prevent parents from enrolling young children into extracurricular activities?” The number of participants that helped answer this research question were 30 (n=30). The teaching profession is recognized to be one of the most stressful fields worldwide (Lhospital & Gregory, 2009). This qualitative study was conducted to explore the different stresses of early childhood professionals in the workplace and further explored to see if there is a difference between general and special educators’ stress. 14 individuals participated in one-on-one interviews, 7 general educators and 7 special educators. After interviews were conducted, five major themes were found, three of which were echoed in the literature. People of all ages can be bullied. The Centre for Elder Research worked with Sheridan Professor Dr. Kirsten Madsen and Elder Abuse Prevention (ON) to better understand bullying between older adults age 55+ in Ontario. Our project aims were to collect data on the prevalence and nature of Senior to Senior bullying in Ontario, and to use this data to create this Toolkit outlining best practices and strategies for older adults and those working with older adults to stop bullying.
