Danelle L. Moon

In this paper, I will explore the role of local peace activist and feminist, Florence Ledyard Kitchelt (1874-1961) in supporting social justice, equality, and world peace. In 1924 Kitchelt accepted a paid position with the Connecticut League of Nation’s Association (CLNA), and for nearly twenty years she served as secretary and director of the organization. Collection building in the digital age aims to create a collection of "freely accessible, integrated, and comprehensive record of serious scholarship and knowledge." Library collections are broadly defined as all the resources libraries make available to users—items purchased, locally created or reformatted digital materials, subject guides, social networking tools, and content freely accessible in digital collections around the world. New selectors must master several enduring skills related to collection policy, management of print and digital resources, budget management, and liaison with clientele. An entrepreneurial approach to collection building and liaison requires an understanding of the digital library context and diverse …

A Standardized Approach To Assessment: Results From A Pilot Study Of Library Instruction Sessions At San Jose State University, Shannon M. Staley

Shannon M. Staley

Introduction
We explore the use of a psychometric model for locally-relevant, information literacy assessment, using an online tool for standardised assessment of student learning during discipline-based library instruction sessions.

A quantitative approach to data collection and analysis was used, employing standardised multiple-choice survey questions followed by individual, cognitive interviews with undergraduate students. The assessment tool was administered to five general education psychology classes during library instruction sessions.

Analysis
Descriptive statistics were generated by the assessment tool. Results. The assessment tool proved a feasible means of measuring student learning. While student scores improved on every survey question, there was uneven …
