The DePaul University Richardson Library conducted a study of an interactive, touch-based wayfinding screen in order to determine 1) what specific content needs users desire in digital wayfinding services and 2) are user content needs so broad, a more full-feature experience with access to all library web content would be preferred. The three-phase study included analysis of click analytics data, observations of user interactions and questionnaires targeting user experiences and expectations. The study builds on research at other libraries around point-of-need wayfinding signage and usability of digital information. In this session, you will rotate in groups through a variety of emerging technology stations where you will explore and brainstorm how you can incorporate each tool into your own curriculum. At MCLA we have sponsored undergraduate student interns who assist with marketing and outreach for the library. Our interns are responsible for the library’s Tumblr, posting weekly about databases, items from the archives, and apps of interest, the library’s Instagram account, and the library’s Facebook account. In addition, they have created videos and hosted social media contests. We will share some of the projects our interns have worked in and talk about best practices in having student run social media.

This paper presents a citation analysis of Internext-Review of International Business to detect the impact caused by papers published for the period 2006-2013. The Publish or Perish (PoP) software is used, which retrieves articles and citations from Google Scholar database. As part of the applied indicators are: the distribution of authors by articles, citations per year, citation vs. self-citation, journal’s citable vs. non citable documents, journal’s cited vs. uncited documents, co-word analysis, and H Index. A total of 131 articles were obtained for 153 citations made until June, 2014. Most articles present multiple authorship. It is also detected an ascending …

Digital libraries can be deployed at many points throughout the life cycles of scientific research projects from their inception through data collection, analysis, documentation, publication, curation, preservation, and stewardship. Requirements for digital libraries to manage research data vary along many dimensions, including life cycle, scale, research domain, and types and degrees of openness. This article addresses the role of digital libraries in knowledge infrastructures for science, presenting evidence from long-term studies of four research sites. Findings are based on interviews (n=208), ethnographic fieldwork, document analysis, and historical archival research about scientific data practices, conducted over the course of more than …

The University of Kentucky (UK) Libraries approved a statement in September 2013 confirming its commitment to cultivating and encouraging diversity and inclusivity in its personnel policies and in its collections, programs, and services. The library subsequently developed an Undergraduate Diversity Scholar Program to provide two students with a paid internship in the 2014/15 academic year. UK undergraduates interested in diversity issues were encouraged to apply. Applicants were evaluated based on their work experience, volunteer or service activities, recommendations from two referees, and an essay about their belief in the benefits of a diverse society. The phenomenon of China's rise as an emerging scientific power has been well documented, yet the development of its social science is less explored. Utilizing up-to-date Social Science Citation Index (SSCI) publication data (1978–2013), this paper probes the patterns and dynamics of China's social science research via bibliometric analyses. Our research indicates that despite the national orientation of social science research and the linguistic obstacle of publishing for an international audience, China's publications in the SSCI dataset have been rising in terms of volume, world share, and global ranking. There is an increasing emphasis on learning outcomes assessment in the accreditation process in higher education in general and in library education specifically. This mixed methods study investigated the practice of outcomes assessment at master’s programs in library and information studies accredited by the American Library Association in the United States and Canada. Six salient themes emerged from the survey responses of Accreditation Liaison officers and the content analysis of 12 program presentations of MLIS programs. Using group collaboration and team assignments, our library went through a process of trial and error to standardize our library instruction curriculum for undergraduate one-shot classes. We moved from a disorganized system to a standard curriculum based on ACRL standards with mutually-determined learning objectives and three pre-defined class types. In the process we developed an “instruction tool kit” to share information, and workshops to train all instruction librarians. Although theological librarianship occurs most often at seminaries or graduate level theology programs, there are also librarians working with theology on an undergraduate level. In many cases, these librarians are responsible for additional subject areas and may or may not have any theological expertise or training. Like many libraries, our institution had relied on a one-size-fits-all model for our subject research guides without considering the various audiences using our guides, or the different contexts in which students encounter those guides. Learn about our user study that explored how students use these guides, and where they fit into the actual research process. We will discuss how we engaged librarians and created a new model that balances diverse research needs and expectations.

Is There A Relationship Between Research Sponsorship And Publication Impact? An Analysis Of Funding Acknowledgments In Nanotechnology Papers, Jue Wang, Philip Shapira

This study analyzes funding acknowledgments in scientific papers to investigate relationships between research sponsorship and publication impacts. We identify acknowledgments to research sponsors for nanotechnology papers published in the Web of Science during a one-year sample period. We examine the citations accrued by these papers and the journal impact factors of their publication titles. The results show that publications from grant sponsored research exhibit higher impacts in terms of both journal ranking and citation counts than research that is not grant sponsored. We discuss the method and models used, and the insights provided by this approach as well as it …
