Biofabrication: An Overview Of The Approaches Used For Printing Of Living Cells, Cameron J. Ferris, Kerry G. Gilmore, Gordon G. Wallace, Marc In Het Panhuis

Gordon Wallace

The development of cell printing is vital for establishing biofabrication approaches as clinically relevant tools. Achieving this requires bio-inks which must not only be easily printable, but also allow controllable and reproducible printing of cells. This review outlines the general principles and current progress and compares the advantages and challenges for the most widely used biofabrication techniques for printing cells: extrusion, laser, microvalve, inkjet and tissue fragment printing. It is expected that significant advances in cell printing will result from synergistic combinations of these techniques and lead to optimised resolution, throughput and the overall complexity of printed constructs.

Issues: Presently there are technological challenges to drug testing drivers. Approach: An analysis of drug testing results in Queensland with tentative conclusions, including the latest data on comparisons between alcohol and drug testing, types of drugs detected, and post mortem and anti-mortem testing results. Key Findings: Policing for alcohol affected driving and drugged driving are handled differently and there are a range of reasons discussed for that. Implications: There are policing practice and policy implications for this approach. Conclusion: Queensland Police are now some ways down the drugged driving journey however, there are signifi cant difficulties and challenges in the …

Statistical Aspects Of Equivalent Dose And Error Calculation And Display In Osl Dating: An Overview And Some Recommendations, R Galbraith, Richard Roberts Mar 2013

Statistical Aspects Of Equivalent Dose And Error Calculation And Display In Osl Dating: An Overview And Some Recommendations, R Galbraith, Richard Roberts

Richard G Roberts

All Quaternary dating methods involve the measurement of one or more variables to estimate the age of a sample. Each measured quantity has an associated error and uncertainty, and may also be subject to natural variation. We review the statistical estimation of such uncertainties and variation for comparing and interpreting age estimates, with specific reference to the estimation of equivalent dose (De) values in the optically stimulated luminescence (OSL) dating of sediments. We discuss statistical aspects of OSL signal and background estimation, the determination of De values for multi-grain aliquots and individual mineral grains from the same and different samples, …

Nursing Sensitive Outcomes: Identifying A Definition, Exploration Of Conceptual Challenges And An Overview Of The Literature, Jenny Sim, Patrick A. Crookes, Kenneth D. Walsh Aug 2012

Nursing Sensitive Outcomes: Identifying A Definition, Exploration Of Conceptual Challenges And An Overview Of The Literature, Jenny Sim, Patrick A. Crookes, Kenneth D. Walsh

Professor Patrick Crookes

Introduction/background: A literature review on nursing sensitive outcomes has been conducted as part of a larger research project. The literature was reviewed to: - identify a definition of nursing sensitive outcomes - determine the conceptual models used to describe nursing sensitive outcomes - identify significant contributions made by researchers on the development and use of nursing sensitive outcomes in clinical practice. The overall aim of the research project is to develop a set of indicators that provides a balanced view of nursing care and its contribution to patient outcomes. It is anticipated that this research will broaden the debate on nursing …

An Overview And Analysis Of The Health Style Campaign, Mary Davis, Donald Iverson

Don C. Iverson

In 1981, the Office of Health Information and Health Promotion of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services launched a national health promotion media campaign titled Health Style. The purposes of the Health Style campaign were: (1) to increase public awareness of the effects of life-style on health; (2) to enable persons to assess which life-style changes would be most conducive to their health; (3) to stimulate information-seeking behavior and; (4) to foster the development of local health promotion activities and referral networks. The campaign was implemented in nine test communities across the United States. This article: (1) provides …
