Prosodic Rhythm And African American English, Erik R. Thomas, Phillip M. Carter
Phillip M. Carter
Prosodic rhythm was measured for a sample of 20 African American and 20 European American speakers from North Carolina using the metric devised by Low, Grabe, and Nolan (2000), which involves comparisons of the durations of vowels in adjacent syllables. Language And Culture (Spring 2006 Syllabus), Adam Hodges
Adam Hodges
Language is a primary cultural tool used in all human societies. Through the use of language, we interact socially, interpret our surroundings, set up relations and establish shared meanings. In this course, we will examine this intersection of language and culture in an effort to understand how language and culture derive from, shape, and influence each other.
Questions we will consider include …
