At Minnesota State University Mankato (MNSU), we have been exploring new Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for journal packages. Most recently, we started developing subject-package measures as a category, including as a measure of utility or as a measure of supply. Although we could previously combine filters per subject and per package, this caused us to narrow data to a single subject. Now, we can display the results for all subjects and packages as one table, which empowers us to make comparisons easily, to understand the value we gain from our packages better, and to see any subject impacts of cancellations …

How can libraries produce these kinds of reports, including data visualizations, as efficiently as possible?

Over the last several years at Minnesota State University, Mankato, we have iteratively developed standardized reports for journal collection development, outreach, and academic program support. We previously presented an early version of our package-level analysis reports, where we focused on how to use Tableau for data visualization. We produce a variety of collection analysis reports which are used for several collection management functions, such as assessment, evaluation, and administration. We have now developed a Collection Review report which includes 100+ journal and package level data elements and dozens of data visualizations, built up from several hundred underlying lists from numerous data sources. This session is geared towards library staff who would like to increase practical knowledge about collection development and management of DVDs and streaming videos. Video selection includes identifying videos of interest, forming relationships with vendors, issues of pricing, licensing, and copyright fair use versus public performance rights. Video processing involves the steps in providing access to videos through cataloging for local consumption. This includes decisions such as genre and subject heading choices, classification decision, special interest MARC fields. We'll also speak briefly on decisions about packaging, shelving, circulation, weeding, and preservation.

More patrons are using their smart phones and tablets to access library resources as providers add specific applications or Web functionality for their products. This session will cover library services on mobile devices such as e-books, e-journals, electronic indexes, and other mobile applications. We will discuss those subscription services that are mobile ready like EBSCOhost and LibGuides and mobile add-ons such as the iPad app for The Chronicle and the impact this has on licensing and support.
