Demand Versus Supply: Assessing The Capacity Of Mpa Programs To Satisfy The Growing Need For Professional Management In Local Government, Gerald T. Gabris, Trenton J. Davis, Kimberly L. Nelson

Department of Public & Nonprofit Studies Faculty Publications

This article addresses concerns expressed by members of the International City/ County Management Association (ICMA) regarding whether the supply of qualified local government managers will keep pace with the future demand for this occupation. The authors developed several important observations, which are based on decades of experience with a Master of Public Administration (MPA) program focused on local government management, plus strategic planning experience in over 100 local governments. First, it is likely that the impending retirement of the Baby Boom generation of city managers will cause some supply shortages of professional managers in specific geographical regions of the country. …

In the summer of 2004, Georgia Southern University began a library construction project that was to last 4 years. An important aspect was the installation of an Automated Retrieval System (ARC) to house a substantial portion of the library collections so that more space could be available for students, faculty, and the services to meet their needs. This paper traces the development of the use of the ARC to house collections, with emphasis on how materials were selected for the two phases of the project and how catalogers have adapted to the idea of collections that can only be browsed …

This collection consists of articles and letters-to-the-editor written by Roland M. Harper for publication in scholarly journals. Sometimes in typescript, his works focus on botany, conservation, and social conditions, primarily in the southeastern United States. Spanning 1906-1965, additional documents, photographs and audio visual materials pertaining to Roland M. Harper’s family history are included. The collection’s creator, Elizabeth Findley Shores, is the author of the biography On Harper's Trail: Roland McMillan Harper, Pioneering Botanist of the Southern Coastal Plain (2008).
