The Great Csu Weed Of 2019, Amy B. Parsons, Emily Crews
Faculty Bibliography
We kicked. We screamed. We coped. We survived. We will tell you how. In early 2019, The Columbus State University Schwob Memorial (Main) library faced a MASSIVE weeding project like nothing they had coped with before. In this presentation, two librarians, Amy Parsons from Technical services and Emily Crews from Reference services, will share their workflows, public relations challenges, a few best practices, and changes that will be implemented. Oftentimes, libraries have to be torn apart to build them back better. This will be a lighthearted conversation on how we handled this challenge. We will also share a fall update …
What Do We Know About The Health Of First-Generation College Students? A First Look At Compensatory Health Beliefs And Behavior, Kristel M. Gallagher
What Do We Know About The Health Of First-Generation College Students? A First Look At Compensatory Health Beliefs And Behavior, Kristel M. Gallagher
Perspectives In Learning
First-generation college students are less likely than continuing-generation students to reach graduation. Many colleges are working to bridge this divide, however little is known about the physical health of first-generation students. As physical health is associated with academic success, it is important to understand the beliefs and behaviors underpinning the physical health of first-generation college students. The present study examined the relationship between a specific type of unhealthy belief, compensatory health beliefs (CHBs), and the health behaviors of college students, with a focus on eating practices. Participants were first- and continuing-generation students attending a liberal arts institution who completed an …

How Christian Should An Army Officer Be? The Answer May Lie In Servant Leadership, Ian Quinn, Phil C. Bryant
How Christian Should An Army Officer Be? The Answer May Lie In Servant Leadership, Ian Quinn, Phil C. Bryant
Servant Leadership: Theory & Practice
Limits of faith-based behavior in the military are poorly understood. Christian officers may face conflicting imperatives between moral obligations of military service and discipleship. This paper proposes that a Christian officer can satisfy all obligations by pursuing the work of their profession in a faithful manner through servant leadership. The tenets of servant leadership as described by van Dierendonck (2011) are compatible with Christian theology and Army doctrine, and avoid key pitfalls of transformational leadership.

Fire & Emergency Services Perceptions Of Servant Leadership And Job Satisfaction, Christian Lindquist Jr, Eric Russell
Servant Leadership: Theory & Practice
This quantitative correlational research study examined if a relationship existed between perceived servant leadership behaviors of fire and emergency service leaders and employee job satisfaction in fire and emergency services personnel. The study involved n= 205 participants who completed the Organizational Leadership Assessment and the data were analyzed using Spearman’s correlation. The results showed that there is a statistically significant relationship between servant leadership and employee job satisfaction in fire and emergency services personnel.

Schadenfreude: The Impact Of Another's Misfortune On The Mood Of College Students, Erin A. Chalmers
Theses and Dissertations
The present study was focused on determining if positive affect scores increase after viewing an example of misfortune which would demonstrate the psychological phenomenon of schadenfreude-defined as a feeling of pleasure or satisfaction when something misfortunate happens to someone else. Measures used in the study included the Positive and Negative Affect inventory (PANAS; Watson et al., 1988) and a modified version of the Velton mood induction procedure developed by Seibert and Ellis (1991) which was used to measure and manipulate students’ mood, respectively. Students enrolled in a psychology research pool at Columbus State University participated in the study (N=46). The …
