Demystifying Qualitative Data Analysis For Novice Qualitative Researchers, Neringa Kalpokaite, Ivana Radivojevic

The Qualitative Report

Qualitative research is a rich and diverse discipline, yet novice qualitative researchers may struggle in discerning how to approach their qualitative data analysis among the plethora of possibilities. This paper presents a foundational model that facilitates a comprehensive yet manageable approach to qualitative data analysis, and it can be applied within an array of qualitative methodologies. Based on an exhaustive review of expert qualitative methodologists, along with our own experience of teaching qualitative research, this model synthesises commonly-used analytic strategies and methods that are likewise applicable to novice qualitative researchers. This foundational model consists of four iterative cycles: The Inspection …

Ensemble Neural Network Method For Wind Speed Forecasting, Binbin Yong, Fei Qiao, Chen Wang, Jun Shen, Yongqiang Wei, Qingguo Zhou Jan 2019

Ensemble Neural Network Method For Wind Speed Forecasting, Binbin Yong, Fei Qiao, Chen Wang, Jun Shen, Yongqiang Wei, Qingguo Zhou

Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences - Papers: Part B

Wind power generation has gradually developed into an important approach of energy supply. Meanwhile, due to the difficulty of electricity storage, wind power is greatly affected by the real-time wind speed in wind fields. Generally, wind speed has the characteristics of nonlinear, irregular, and non-stationary, which make accurate wind speed forecasting a difficult problem. Recent studies have shown that ensemble forecasting approaches combining different sub-models is an efficient way to solve the problem. Therefore, in this article, two single models are ensembled for wind speed forecasting. Meanwhile, four data pre-processing hybrid models are combined with the reliability weights. The proposed …

A Method Of Uncertainty Analysis For Whole-Life Embodied Carbon Emissions (Co2-E) Of Building Materials Of A Net-Zero Energy Building In Australia, Mehdi Robati, Daniel J. Daly, Georgios Kokogiannakis Jan 2019

A Method Of Uncertainty Analysis For Whole-Life Embodied Carbon Emissions (Co2-E) Of Building Materials Of A Net-Zero Energy Building In Australia, Mehdi Robati, Daniel J. Daly, Georgios Kokogiannakis

Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences - Papers: Part B

The construction of new buildings requires the use of a substantial amount of materials, which have an associated embodied energy for manufacturing, transport, construction and end-of-life disposal. A number of inventories have been developed to collate the typical embodied energy or carbon emissions associated with different building materials and activities, and these can be used to quantify the environmental impacts of different construction methods. However, uncertainty exists in the estimation of embodied CO2-e emissions and other environmental impact results, due to i) inconsistencies in typical embodied carbon emissions values in inventories; ii) errors in estimations of material quantities; iii) assumptions …

Which Source Possesses The Most And Highest Quality Data On The Empirical Aspects Of Criminal Events? A Theory Of Opportunity And Necessary Conditions, Scott Jacques Jan 2019

Which Source Possesses The Most And Highest Quality Data On The Empirical Aspects Of Criminal Events? A Theory Of Opportunity And Necessary Conditions, Scott Jacques

CJC Publications

Offenders and nonoffenders possess valuable information about crime. But which possesses the best data? This is a complex issue, so I narrow my focus to data on empirical aspects of criminal events. Drawing on the necessary conditions perspective, I theorize that a source’s possession 1) of data varies directly with its involvement in cases; 2) of representative data varies inversely with nonrandom involvement in cases and nonrandom siphoning off from the larger group to which it belongs; and, 3) of accurate data varies inversely with time since involvement in cases. Those general principles suggest that offenders, especially active ones, possess …

An Illustration Of Cooperative Inquiry Design: Finding Our Way To Precious Knowledge, Together, Susan L. Ross Jan 2019

An Illustration Of Cooperative Inquiry Design: Finding Our Way To Precious Knowledge, Together, Susan L. Ross

International Journal of Transpersonal Studies

Although transpersonal psychology and practices are inherently holistic, vitally informed by an ontology of interconnectedness, and fundamentally open to practices that challenge hegemonic norms in research practices, the use of participatory methods that implement these ideals, remains scarce. The purpose of this paper is to reveal the details of the transpersonal research I co-conducted, which used Cooperative Inquiry to analyze the transpersonal phenomenon of psychospiritual transformation, for researchers and practitioners who seek an example to guide their investigations. My intent is to stimulate enthusiasm for this method by providing an overview of cooperative inquiry followed by a detailed account of …

Late Paleoindian Land Tenure In Southwest Wyoming: Towards Integrating Method And Theory In An Analysis Of Taphochronometric Indicators Of Time-Averaged Deposits In The Wyoming Basin, Wyoming Usa, Cynthia D. Highland Jan 2019

Late Paleoindian Land Tenure In Southwest Wyoming: Towards Integrating Method And Theory In An Analysis Of Taphochronometric Indicators Of Time-Averaged Deposits In The Wyoming Basin, Wyoming Usa, Cynthia D. Highland

Anthropology Department: Theses

According to Bailey (2008), substantive time perspectivism acknowledges that different types of phenomena operate over different time spans and resolutions as a matter of course while methodological time perspectivism concerns the notion that the nature of the data at our disposal, as well as the timescale of observation we choose to view it with, will affect the types of patterns that are possible to detect in the archaeological record. This thesis explores these ideas further. It is a pilot study of southwest Wyoming Late Paleoindian land tenure embedded within an extended critique of Wandsnider (2008). To Wandsnider’s original sample of …
