Assessment Of Study Space Usage In The Kenneth Dike Library, Bolariwa M. Adeyemi

This paper explore the actual use of the physical space in Kenneth Dike Library by the students' population, the role these spaces are playing for learning and for related services in the university of Ibadan academic environment. It looked at the suitability of available spaces and suggestions for improvement. Survey method was adopted for the study with 94.5% response rate. It found that quite study is what attract majority respondents to Kenneth Dike Library. What emerged was that academic pursuits remain the most common activity in the library space.

The library profession as a whole is predominantly white with a large discrepancy between the percentage of minorities in the United States in general and the percentage of professional librarians who are minorities. Despite past recruitment efforts, there remains a dearth of minority librarians in higher education and the reasons for this remain unclear. The purpose of this qualitative study was to investigate minority librarian experiences in higher education and their perceptions of supports and barriers encountered in becoming and being professional librarians. A Peer Research Mentor (PRM) program was developed at Musselman Library, Gettysburg College to augment traditional reference services and expand library outreach. Goals included enhancing these students’ information literacy skills helping them become better researchers, as well as sharing that knowledge with peers. Abstract

The relevance of academic library to people outside the academic setting needs to be redefined because of restrictions and non inclusion of their information needs in collection development policy. The study therefore evaluated town-gown relationship in Ondo State Nigeria with direct cognisance to assessment of Community Information Services (CISs) by academic libraries. Complete enumeration sampling technique was adopted to distribute questionnaires to all 58 librarians working in academic libraries in the State. 52 questionnaires were returned and found useful. The latest practice for receiving, reviewing, and archiving graduate student scholarship is to have students submit their electronic theses and dissertations (ETDs) to an institutional repository (IR). The University of Kentucky Graduate School and the University of Kentucky Libraries have teamed to create a new workflow for the online submission of ETDs to UKnowledge, the University's IR.
