This poster presentation shares results of a large-scale, collaborative, cross-cultural study that examined the role of the humane orientation (HO) as a moderator of the relationships between work- and family-related support, work-family conflict, and work-family positive spillover. For this study, I had the privilege of working with principal investigators Barbara, Beham from Berlin School of Economics and Law, Germany; Ariane, Ollier-Malaterre from Université du Québec A Montréal, Canada and Tammy D. The purpose of this poster presentation is to highlight the struggles faced by first-generation college students at their institution and identify where this support is needed. This poster presentation identifies the multiple learning curves and obstacles experienced by first-generation college students towards degree completion. It is recognized that first-generation college students and their paths through higher education are notably different compared to their continuing generation peers. This is a presentation to the Governors State University Research Day, April 2017. The presentation reviews Open Access progress thus far on campus, including a review of OA Graduate student capstones and theses, and faculty works. Open access to research articles policies, including the State of Illinois law and GSU OA policy are discussed. Research shows that open access gives authors a citation advantage, according to an article published in PLoS One.
