School-based occupational therapists support academic success within and outside the classroom through accommodations/strategies and modifications to student’s class environment. Children with learning disabilities face a variety of occupational challenges in school including completing class assignments, following school routines, tolerating unexpected/expected sounds, and developing/maintaining friendships. The purpose of this capstone experience was to gain clinical skills for school-based occupational therapy and to develop academic, social, and life skills lessons for children with learning disabilities as well as a parent newsletter with carryover activities and strategies. Achievement of these objectives address the gap and need for schools to provide services/education for children …

Service Leadership: The First Year Student Experience, Connor Curtis
Senior Honors Projects
Servant leadership, in the words of Robert Greenleaf from the Greenleaf Center of Servant Leadership, is “a servant first… It begins with the natural feeling that one wants to serve, to serve first.” This has become one of the guiding theories of leadership within the Center for Student Leadership Development’s (CSLD) Leadership Studies minor at the University of Rhode Island. Assessing The Strategic Credibility Of Special Collections, Erin Passehl, Rick A. Stoddart
Rick A Stoddart
In this time of often precarious funding at many colleges and universities, any case that can be made to illustrate how a department strategically fits into the overall university mission is not only worth merit, but an essential survival technique. This “strategic credibility” within the university is a vital form of currency in determining institution-wide resources prioritization, collaboration opportunities between organizational units, and overall direction of departments. This paper presents a case study of academic special collections in the Northwest and examines the methods these departments use to demonstrate value to the university. This paper considers how well do special …

Information Literacy In The New Curriculum, Michiel Moll
Information Literacy In The New Curriculum, Michiel Moll
Michiel E Moll
South Africa has undergone major changes in the school curriculum. At the same time, international emphasis on the importance of Information Literacy has found reflections locally in many calls for the development of school libraries (e.g. Arnold, 2002: 178), but has remained a problem in the actual implementation. This is also reflected in initial teacher training which has moved Information Literacy to a skill of the teacher, rather than an essential part of the curriculum that they have to teach.
This paper first looks briefly at the changes in national curricula in South Africa, and then at the current curriculum, …

Albertsons Library at Boise State University has been slow to move into the ebook arena for a variety of reasons including the inadequacies of simultaneous user models and the uncertainty of ebook technology. However, the most significant question for BSU has been usefulness of ebooks to their patrons. Are ebooks a passing fad or are they the answer to improved access to information? In January 2006, BSU selected a small group of technical books in an electronic format via the ProQuest Safari Tech Books Online database. This session will discuss the rational behind selecting technical books as an introduction to …
