(1) Background: The purpose of this study was to examine the symptoms of low energy availability (LEA) and risk of relative energy deficiency in sport (RED-S) symptoms in para-athletes using a multi-parameter approach. (2) Methods: National level para-athletes (n = 9 males, n = 9 females) completed 7-day food and activity logs to quantify energy availability (EA), the LEA in Females Questionnaire (LEAF-Q), dual energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA) scans to assess bone mineral density (BMD), and hormonal blood spot testing. (3) Results: Based on EA calculations, no athlete was at risk for LEA (females < 30 kcal·kg−1 FFM·day−1; and males …

The role of attentional focusing in motor tasks has been highlighted frequently. The “internal–external” dimension has emerged, but also the spatial distance between body and attended location. In two experiments, an extended attentional focus paradigm was introduced to investigate distality effects of attentional foci on balance performance. First, the distality of the coordinates of the point of focus was varied between a proximal and distal position on an artificial tool attached to the body. Second, the distance of the displayed effect on the wall was varied between a 2.5 and 5 m condition. Subjects were instructed to focus on controlling …
Comparing The Effectiveness Of Verbal Feedback Versus Acoustical Feedback Within A Behavior Skills Training Package When Teaching Beginning Yoga Postures To Novice Yoga Practitioners, Molly Rauschl
All Master's Theses
Behavior skills training (BST), composed of modeling, instructions, rehearsal, and feedback, is an efficient and commonly used training package that has been proven effective in fostering behavior change in a variety of learners and with a multitude of behaviors, including those related to health and fitness. Feedback has been deemed a critical component of BST and there are various ways in which feedback can be administered. This study compared the effectiveness and efficiency of providing verbal feedback versus acoustical feedback within a BST package when teaching beginning yoga postures to participants who have never before practiced yoga. No feedback method …
An Empirical Examination Of University Intercollegiate Athletic Expenditures, Jeffrey L. Stinson, Adam Marquardt, Joshua Chandley
An Empirical Examination Of University Intercollegiate Athletic Expenditures, Jeffrey L. Stinson, Adam Marquardt, Joshua Chandley
All Faculty Scholarship for the College of Business
To date, little empirical work has examined the institutional returns associated with athletic program investments. While intangible brand effects are commonly cited, such as athletics serving as the perceptual “front porch” of the institution, direct examination of the effects of athletic programs has often been narrow in scope. Within this study, we assess the contributions of investment in athletics as compared to other areas of institutional investment, on important institutional outcomes. Data for the study was collected from two datasets, the Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS) and the Equity in Athletics dataset. Fixed effects models for NCAA Football Bowl …

A Study Of The Status And Leadership Of Girls' Athletics And The Attitudes Of Teachers Of Girls' Physical Education Toward Girls' Athletics In The State Of Idaho, Connie M. Thorngren
All Master's Theses
In 1969 a questionnaire was sent to all Idaho high schools concerning girls’ athletic programs and the attitudes of girls’ physical education teachers toward athletics. Eighty-seven percent of the questionnaires were returned, an indication of high interest in the subject area. Results showed moderate participation in most team sports and low participation in most individual sports. Teachers demonstrated favorable attitudes toward girls’ interscholastic athletics and indicated a need for enlarged programs. Money, facilities, and qualified coaches and officials were viewed as major concerns of girls’ programs.
