J Strength Cond Res 26(10): 2685-2697, 2012-The primary purpose of the present investigation was to examine the relationships between club head speed, isometric midthigh pull performance, and vertical jump performance in a cohort of recreational golfers. 2012-Limited research exists examining the effect of moderately loaded conditioning activities that are employed as part of a strength-power potentiating complex (SPPC). Additionally, no studies to date have explored the effects of using a concentric-only quarter back squat protocol as part of an SPPC. The purpose of this study was to compare the effects of resistance training performed on either a stable or unstable surface on performance tests in female soccer players. Nineteen National Collegiate Athletic Association Division II female soccer players were assigned to either an unstable training group (UST: 19.0±0.47 years; 1.6966.4 m; 67.8±7.7kg) or a stable training group (ST: 19.6 ± 0.49 years; 1.64 ± 3.2 m; 62.7 ± 6.27 kg). The ability to express high power outputs is considered to be one of the foundational characteristics underlying successful performance in a variety of sporting activities, including jumping, throwing, and changing direction. Numerous training interventions have been recommended to enhance the athlete's ability to express high power outputs and improve their overall sports performance capacity. This brief review examines the factors that underlie the expression of power and various methods that can be used to maximize power development.
