This study describes the impact of social change upon the social structure of an Indian pueblo community in New Mexico. It is an investigation of the variant social forces and their conflicting impingements. Given a certain culture heritage, a particular historical background and a specific physical and social setting, what are the results of change upon the social system and upon the individual? While the history of the Latter-day Saints who colonized in Mexico is probably not generally known by the majority of Latter-day Saints living throughout the world today, it nevertheless comprises an exceptionally colorful and exciting chapter of the history of Mormonism. The task undertaken in this thesis is to make comparisons between the objectives of education as set forth by the National Education Association and the conclusions regarding public education which were reached by the research workers in eight community social research studies.
Briefly, the norms adopted for this thesis are the "objectives of education in democracy" as formulated by the Educational Policies Commission of the National Education Association. These objectives are (1) self-realization, (2) improved human relationships, (3) economical efficiency, and (4) Civic Responsibility.
