Do we as communities recognize the importance of education--early educational experiences? The number of day care and early childhood educational experiences in the metropolitan area would suggest that as a community, we have miles to go and promises to keep if we are to enlarge upon and foster the potential of each child. Our leadership for the next generation will be the product of today's cradle. Early childhood experiences can contribute immeasurably to the cognitive growth of young children. This city needs to be aware of what experiences are now avail able and to see how it can foster the …

The purpose of this study was twofold, first to focus on and to measure quantitatively three groups of adult prisoners' attitudes and orientations toward crime and law enforcement. Secondly, the study was to determine the relationship between background characteristics of prisoners and the attitudinal variables. The analysis included data concerning the relationship of eight separate background factors - (age, marital status, church membership, education, school drop-out reason, occupation, place of residence, and criminal record) - to the crime and law enforcement variables.

David McClelland's theory of n Achievement (n Ach.) and Max Weber's theory of achievement implicit in THE PROTESTANT ETHIC AND THE SPIRIT OF CAPITALISM are experimentally analyzed and compared with Theodore Kemper's theory of reference groups in an attempt to determine the relative importance of factors of the immediate social situation versus ingrained personality characteristics in in the development and modification of achievement motivation. In examining the effects of the reference group on achievement motivation in this study, the subjects were initially ranked according to level of n Ach and those low in n Ach were individually established in reference …

Ideology & Sociology: The Predisposition To Believe, W. Miles Stryker
Ideology & Sociology: The Predisposition To Believe, W. Miles Stryker
Masters Theses & Specialist Projects
It is one of the main contentions of this presentation that a discipline such as sociology must constantly refer to the socio-cultural circumstances within which it operates, in order to make decisions concerning the expansion or contraction of the area of phenomena it is attempting to analyze and study. Relevancy, admittedly, is a value based on an ideological assumption, but within the confines of this presentation remains a very important one; one which establishes both a direction toward which it is felt sociology must move as well as a base from which it must be extended.
