It's been a banner year for Dr. Dan DeWitt, director for the Center for Biblical Apologetics and Public Christianity and associate professor of applied theology and apologetics at Cedarville University.

Not only has DeWitt written a new children's book, but the book, "The Friend Who Forgives," has been named the "book of the year" by two national organizations. Christianity Today named DeWitt's first children's book as its 2019 top book, while The Gospel Coalition added to DeWitt's accomplishment by naming it the best children's book this year. The awards were announced last week by both organizations.

Smith has become known as the leading political expert among Ohio's leading media outlets, and tomorrow he will complete his 1,000th media interview since joining the faculty at Cedarville University in 2004. Ouachita Baptist University’s Hickingbotham School of Business hosted its 10th annual Business Plan Competition on Dec. 5. Cole Jester, a senior Christian studies/biblical studies major from Benton, Ark., placed first in the competition with his business plan for Bone Dri and received a $4,000 cash prize. Jester was advised by Bryan McKinney, dean of the Hickingbotham School of Business, associate professor of business law and university counsel.

Connor Hart, a Cedarville freshman mechanical engineering major from Loveland, Ohio, founded The Hands of Hope Foundation, in August 2018. The Hands of Hope Foundation is a nonprofit that empowers children with a limb difference by providing them with free 3D-printed prosthetics.

Emergency care can be difficult to manage. Consider a traumatic laceration to the neck from a bullet wound or car accident. Catastrophic blood loss could cause a fatality in minutes, so sufficient pressure must be applied to the injury. If the correct amount of pressure is not applied at the right location, the neck laceration may continue to bleed or the airway may be constricted, leading to brain damage, suffocation and possibly death.

Networked communication has changed the nature of the public sphere by making it more accessible to more people; however, the networked public sphere also creates issues such as echo chambers, information overload, and polarization. Further, use of algorithms that influence media consumption amplifies to role of information on social identity. This “infocentric identity” driven by algorithms may increase polarization among those interacting in the networked public sphere. Previous research indicates that municipalities are often insulated from such national-level polarization. Ouachita Baptist University music students earned 11 finalist honors at the 2018 Southern Region Conference and Student Auditions held at Northwestern Louisiana University in Natchitoches, La. The competition, which is organized by the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS), was attended by nearly 400 students from colleges and universities in Arkansas, Louisiana and Mississippi. Of this total, 23 Ouachita students earned finalist or semifinalist honors.

There are more than 4,000 ethnic groups with no portion of the Bible in their language and 1,500 with only the New Testament or parts of the Bible. But a smartphone application designed by Cedarville University computer science students is crunching a process that would normally take years into hours and has the potential for changing the landscape of modern missions.
