The Right Premtm: Rasch Analysis Of A New Patient Reported Experience Measure For Use By Older People In Hospital, Louise Heuzenroeder, Jyoti Khadka, Alison Kitson

Patient Experience Journal

Healthcare rights exist to protect older people from harm and to empower older people to participate in their care with independence, choice and control. Multiple investigations revealing abuse provide evidence that older people’s rights are being breached. Older people must have the opportunity to report on their experience of care against their rights. The Right PREMTM is a new instrument designed to measure older people’s experience of care against their healthcare rights. The objective of this cross-sectional validation study was to assess the psychometric properties of a new instrument to measure the experience of care consistent with the healthcare …

Safety Participation At The Direct Care Level: Results Of A Patient Questionnaire, Lenora Duhn, Nathaniel Gumapac, Jennifer Medves

Patient Experience Journal

Understanding how patients can be engaged in safety-related activities at the direct care level is of current relevance given global efforts to reduce harm in hospitals. As part of a multiphase study, including a descriptive, exploratory qualitative study (Duhn & Medves, 2018), patients were asked to respond to a brief questionnaire to quantify how they viewed their patient-reported safety participation behaviours while in hospital. This paper is a summary of those responses. The 8-item questionnaire was, in part, used to help address a secondary research question of the larger qualitative study, specifically: What behaviours do patients report in promoting their …

Psychometric Properties Of The New Patients’ Expectations Questionnaire, Ann Bowling Bsc, Msc, Phd, Gene Rowe Phd

Patient Experience Journal

The authors explore the development of the Patients’ Expectations Questionnaire (PEQ) and examination of psychometric characteristics it encompasses by reviewing surveys of primary care and hospital outpatients before and after their clinic visit. Three scales were developed for Pre-visit Ideal and Realistic expectations, and Post-visit Experiences (met expectations), based on literature review, semi-structured interviews, and subsequently piloted and refined. Patients completed the questionnaire about their ideal and realistic expectations before they saw the doctor, and were asked if their expectations had been met afterwards. The results show the scales met acceptability criteria for reliability (Cronbach’s alphas exceeded α 0.70), administration …

Developing An Outcome Evaluation Instrument For The Bluegrass Domestic Violence Program: The Use Of Cognitive Interviews In Questionnaire Development, Andrea Walden Jan 2008

Developing An Outcome Evaluation Instrument For The Bluegrass Domestic Violence Program: The Use Of Cognitive Interviews In Questionnaire Development, Andrea Walden

MPA/MPP/MPFM Capstone Projects

Questionnaires can be useful tools for evaluating program outcomes in human services programs, in that they provide quick, easy-, and inexpensive-to-gather information about the program's success in meeting its objectives. Questionnaires may be easy to use, but they are not necessarily easy to design. If developed using sound methodology, the data gathered from questionnaires can be valid and of use to administrators, board members, direct-service staff, and funders in improving a program's services without a more resource-intensive program evaluation.

An exit questionnaire was developed to evaluate the Bluegrass Domestic Violence Program's (BDVP) achievement of short-term outcomes. Short-term outcomes for the …
