Zion Lutheran Church in Portland has had contact with a number of neighborhood residents who have been released from mental institutions but who have had little community support. The Church has felt the need for some time to develop a residential program for former patients in the area they serve. The authors of this report agreed to conduct a needs assessment and to develop a program relative to the results of the assessment.

A needs assessment identified the target population, attempted to determine what services they would use and how such services might best be delivered. The assessment was conducted …

This issue of Review of Applied Urban Research features "A Demographic Analysis of the Omaha Jewish Community" by Murray Frost.

The 1970 Census asked no questions about religious identification and therefore a religious community must make its own studies to determine the characteristics of its population. A study conducted for the Omaha Jewish Federation by the Center for Applied Urban Research provided this data for the Omaha Jewish community.

This report presents data from a ten-page questionnaire mailed in Fall 1975 to all households on the "community list" maintained by the Omaha Jewish Federation. Responses were received from 1,165 of …

The unique diversity of our cultural heritage and background is slowly but surely being recognized as a valuable asset for our country, one to be cherished and shared. But the very richness and diversity of our heritage make it difficult for the classroom teacher or the college professor to acquire an understanding of the many groups who have contributed so much to the development of our nation.

Perceived Attributes Related To Adoption Of Food Storage, Connie Jean Roberts

Theses and Dissertations

The purpose of this study is to determine the relationship between an individual's perceptions of the attributes of food storage and his adoption of food storage practices. Food storage is defined as the practice of preserving and storing basic food commodities as a reserve supply. This practice is encouraged as a preparatory measure to provide security for families in the midst of emergencies, whether physical, economic, or social in nature. It becomes especially appropriate in developing areas where physical disasters (such as earthquakes and floods) coupled with social and economic instability, individually and on a national scale, pose constant threats …

Programmed Instruction From The Instructor's Viewpoint, Michael D. Stoll Jan 1977

Programmed Instruction From The Instructor's Viewpoint, Michael D. Stoll

Masters Theses

The role of the instructor is, and always will be, a critical one. Until now, though, mediating a course to a self-paced, programmed learning environment frequently has neglected the fact that the instructor will have to alter teaching methods to a great extent in order to cope with the new situation. Further, without a thorough understanding of the role to be played out, the instructor could actually destroy even the best of courses.

This report studies the changeover of United States Air Force technical training course 3ABR25130 Weather Specialist from group-lock step to self-paced programmed learning. A background of both …

Workers' Health And Safety: Whose Costs, Whose Benefits?, Joseph A. Page

Georgetown Law Faculty Publications and Other Works

Health and safety on the job remain sources of bitter controversy in the public forums. Businessmen rail against the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) for its "dictatorial" enforcement of "oppressive" regulations, leading President Ford in early 1976 to demonstrate sympathy for their concerns. Labor leaders deplore the failure of industry and government to stem the toll of death and disablement from work-related disease. Members of' Congress, responsive to pressures from constituents, fill pages of the Congressional Record with reports of both employer vexations and employee tragedies.

Like ships passing in the night, advocates on both sides tend to regard …
