The Graduate Review
Abstract
This article explores the emerging focus on self-care and wellness amongst college students. In this article, the authors highlight the cultural shift from the “grind culture,” the complete and exhaustive dedication towards one’s work, to a focus on individual and community well being and how educational institutions are responding to students’ needs (Absher, 2020). Bridgewater State University's current response to student wellness is discussed, with a focus on the School of Social Work’s research efforts, programs and services being implemented, from the voices of graduate students. Self-care and wellness is an emerging conversation occurring in many professions and educational …

The Minefield: Designing And Implementing Human Resource Policies In The Age Of Social Media, Christopher R. Mcmillan
The Graduate Review
Human resource managers have had to navigate a minefield of laws and regulations while continuing to manage the traditional business functions of the employer. Now, human resource departments across the nation are tasked with managing the traditional employee-employer relationship in light of an ever-changing technological and legal landscape. Businesses across the nation have had to adjust to a rise in the use of social-media and have suffered the consequences of instantaneous communication between employees and the media. These same businesses must reconcile the need to protect its goodwill and livelihood, while incorporating the safeguards provided by legislation and regulations in …
Impacts Of Technological Support And College On Returning Female Veterans’ Well-Being, Michael W. Dunn
Impacts Of Technological Support And College On Returning Female Veterans’ Well-Being, Michael W. Dunn
Master’s Theses and Projects
Drawing on social justice as a foundation, this study explored governmental, private and non-profit responses and assistance made available to female military veterans returning from active duty. The study determined how technology and college have helped provide solutions and support for female veterans, who have experienced deployment, to reintegrate positively into society and to improve their psychological wellbeing.
Given that many female veterans now returning from Iraq and Afghanistan are technologically well-informed, an assessment of available technological support was made to ascertain which of them were beneficial as these women sought to regain a sense of normality in their lives. …

This paper reports on a mobility management technology project conducted by the GeoGraphics Laboratory at Bridgewater State University in Bridgewater, Massachusetts, in the Northeastern United States (U.S.). This study is a part of a much larger mobility management technology deployment by the Cape Cod Regional Transit Authority (CCRTA) that deployed integrated intermodal intelligent transportation system (ITS) to support the mobility of a metropolitan region that has a high proportion of elderly residents and persons with disabilities and is a significant tourist destination for national and international travelers. This paper reports on a research project that is developing smartphone applications to …

Applying advanced technology for transportation research and management has been the focus of Bridgewater State’s GeoGraphics Laboratory since 1994. The laboratory has attracted a broad range of students from many academic disciplines and walks of life to engage in leading edge applications of innovative hardware and software to meet the needs of our transportation systems. The GeoGraphics Lab has provided a laboratory experience for nearly two decades. Geographic technology has changed dramatically over this time. The availability of global positioning systems (GPS) on cell phones is nearly ubiquitous. The increased power and reduced cost of desktop geographic information systems (GIS) …

China-Asean High-Speed Rail Project, Neala Menz
Undergraduate Review
The Chinese Railway Ministry has big ideas, not only for its country, but for the world. It is currently in negotiation with several other countries discussing its ultimate plan to build a trans-continental high-speed rail line that could possibly reach as far as the United Kingdom. A smaller portion of this potential rail system will be constructed in Southeast Asia. Part of China’s 12th five-year plan is to build a high-speed rail connecting the countries involved in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). The goal in building the rail line is to improve transportation, collaboration, and trade in the …
Bike Sharing As Alternative Transportation At Bridgewater State University, Jennifer Ashley
Bike Sharing As Alternative Transportation At Bridgewater State University, Jennifer Ashley
Undergraduate Review
This research project examined the feasibility of a bike share program as an effective form of alternative transportation at Bridgewater State University. Bike share models were developed, first, by brainstorming with key members of the BSU campus and surrounding community. Next, three New England colleges with bike share programs were explored to determine how they structured their programs and overcame their challenges. Lastly, the BSU community was surveyed to assess potential interest and usage in bike sharing. The results stated that 84% of total participants were interested in a bike share program with 50% reporting they would use it eleven …

Historical Commentary: Vietnam And Revisionism, David Culver
Historical Commentary: Vietnam And Revisionism, David Culver
Bridgewater Review
Last year General William Westmoreland told a Boston College audience that politicians caused America's defeat in Vietnam. Westmoreland’s charge reflects recent Vietnam War revisionism, the effort to rationalize America’s defeat by claiming that United States forces were prevented from winning. Besides the politicians, who reduced military spending, the revisionists’ cast of villains includes the media and antiwar dissenters, who turned the nation against the war, and various Presidents, who restricted military operations. If polls are to be believed, these interpretations are widely held by Americans, especially Vietnam veterans.

Completing The Missing Link: The Economic Impact Of I-495 On Southeastern Massachusetts, Glenn Miller
Bridgewater Review
The long-anticipated final link of Boston’s outer beltway, I-495, was opened in southeastern Massachusetts in November of 1982. South Shore residents who watched enviously as Rt. 128 and the North Shore experienced rapid economic growth and all the benefits (and possible drawbacks) of “high-tech” development, can now anticipate some of those changes in the area between Brockton and New Bedford. The catalyst, according to a wide range of indicators, is the completion of Rt. I-495.
It is generally accepted that access to a major highway provides the impetus for economic development and population growth. The full impact of circumferential beltways, …
