Adolescent Shoplifting And Situational Stimuli, James A. Chambers
Adolescent Shoplifting And Situational Stimuli, James A. Chambers
Dissertations and Theses
Adolescent shoplifting has provoked limited and somewhat controversial perspectives within the sociological and psychological literature. These controversies center around the empirical variables used for analysis. A companion argument focuses on the subjective and objective measurement of these variables. This research explicated variables from the sociological literature to test their relationship, using multiple linear regression, to adolescent shoplifting behavior. These variables and situational stimuli were operationalized in a simultaneous model to demonstrate a proximate occurrence of the attitude-situation-behavior reciprocal. This reciprocal is a learning theory which suggests that direct and vicarious experiences accompanied by rewards and punishment, in one's environment, lead …

Policy, Procedures, And People: Governmental Response To A Privately Initiated Nuclear Test Monitoring Project As A Case Study In National Security Decision-Making, Philip G. Schrag
Georgetown Law Faculty Publications and Other Works
This article applies the Allisonian framework to the U.S. Government's response to a private arms control initiative undertaken in 1986 by the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC), an environmental organization. This case lends itself to fruitful analysis for several reasons. First, while it fits the criteria for second-level decisions, it also involves a critical area of international relations-the control of nuclear weapons. Second, the involvement of numerous government agencies in the project presents ample opportunity to examine processes within and among agencies. Third, the reaction of the United States appears, at first blush, to have been ambivalent or inconsistent, for …

Canadian Railway Museums And Visitor Attraction, Walter Gordon Miller Mcwilliams
Canadian Railway Museums And Visitor Attraction, Walter Gordon Miller Mcwilliams
Theses and Dissertations (Comprehensive)
Canadian museums with operating railways constitute special places, and over the past five years they have seen a marked increase in historic preservation work. If this work is to continue these museums, run by volunteer organizations, must be able to increase the numbers of visitors to their sites. Two research questions were investigated, one more objective and scientific, the other more subjective and humanistic: How do such special places function, especially with respect to their market area? And, what sort of sense of place do they create? The first question considers what draws visitors initially; the second question, what brings …

State Of Black Omaha, 1988: Employment And Economic Development, Center For Public Affairs Research (Cpar)
Publications
Income, employment and growth are vital to the economic development of any community, and Omaha's Black community is no exception. Without jobs - particularly quality ones - and without the creation of wealth, a community cannot progress. Residents will eventually leave the area or experience a lessening of quality of life.

The impact of a new convention center or a new firm entering or leaving a region requires the use of multipliers to estimate the full economic effect. Economic Impact Of The Nebraska School For The Deaf, Center For Public Affairs Research (Cpar)
Publications
Researchers from the Center for Applied Urban Research examined the economic impact of the Nebraska School for the Deaf (NSD) on the Omaha area and the state. The impact of the NSD reaches far beyond its primary function of providing educational opportunities for deaf children in Nebraska, therefore, measuring its value is difficult.

Lincoln And Oregon, Todd Hageman
Lincoln And Oregon, Todd Hageman
Masters Theses
The Civil War is one of the most significant events in American history. President Abraham Lincoln’s term in office was dominated by the War, therefore the study of Lincoln has likewise been dominated by War developments. The War’s battles were overwhelmingly concentrated in the eastern United States, and hence the American west has largely been ignored by Lincoln scholars. This study attempts to uncover Lincoln’s policy toward Oregon, including War developments and his domestic policy, to partially fill the “western gap” in Lincoln scholarship.
Oregon was admitted to the federal Union in 1859, and by Lincoln’s election in 1860 that …

Social Dependency And Chinese Political Economic Reform, Jiang Li
Masters Theses
This study of Chinese politics, economics, society and culture is intended to contribute to better understanding of the contemporary reforms in China. This task was not easy due to the facts that China has not been open to direct observation, and its policies were influenced by unpredicted changes.
This thesis is concerned with the reforms and changes that occurred during the years starting 1978 up to the present time. In 1978, the Third Plenary Session of the Eleventh Communist Party of the Chinese Central Committee in Beijing, marked the beginning of the reforms in China. The Chinese leaders made efforts …

Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome Policies In Central Illinois: A Survey, Analysis, And Model, Daniel Lathrop
Masters Theses
One purpose of this study was to develop model policies for school districts to use in dealing with Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS). A second purpose was to identify which school districts in the Educational Service Region (ESR) comprised of Clark, Coles, Cumberland, Edgar, Moultrie, and Shelby counties had addressed the issue of AIDS policies. The population surveyed in the initial phase consisted of 22 superintendents within the ESR. A survey was developed utilizing many items from a national study (Keough and Seaton, 1987). The survey was administered during a monthly meeting of superintendents hosted by Regional Superintendent Rosemary Shepherd. …
