Energy is a sustainability issue receiving primary global concern. Improving energy efficiency and utilizing renewable resources are important in building energy sustainability. An energy-efficient design is a basis for controlling energy efficiency in buildings, and it is highly motivated by the sustainable energy management perception of relevant stakeholders. Hotels have high energy intensities and high working costs. This study investigates the relationship between hotel design adequacy and hoteliers' perception of sustainable energy management in Abuja, Nigeria. This research aims to analyse the impact of quarrying on the health and perception of neighbouring communities. A standard questionnaire survey was conducted to collect data from quarry neighbours in a residential neighbourhood located in the city of Lavras, Minas Gerais, Brazil. Residences were distributed based on proximity to a quarrying company, resulting in three distances divided by three equally distant radii, named as Area I (closest to the quarrying company at 630 m), Area II (730 m), and Area III (farthest from the quarrying company at 830 m). This research paper explores drawing as a tool to facilitate interdisciplinary practice. Outlined is the personal experience of PhD researcher [name removed] in their physics/craft research project, combined with thoughts and opinions from collaborators gathered through group discursive interviews. Interdisciplinary projects face interpersonal and conceptually ambiguous challenges which can be addressed through adopting drawing techniques for educational purposes. Findings highlight that drawing can assist across a breadth of applications as a learning tool for everyone, regardless of drawing ability, to improve the functionality of collaborative projects. A primary objective of the grant was to scale the adoption of adaptive courseware in general education courses at each of the grant institutions. This paper deals with a host-parasitoid model subject to Allee effect and its dynamical behavior. Steady state points of the proposed host-parasitoid model are computed. Stability properties are analyzed with eigen values of Jacobian matrix which are determined at the steady states. Theoretical findings are supported by numerical illustrations and enhanced by pictorial representations such as bifurcation diagrams, phase portraits and local amplifications for different parameter values. Existence of chaotic behavior in the system is established via bifurcation and sensitivity analysis of the system at the initial conditions. Given that the creation and deployment of autonomous vehicles is likely to continue, it is important to explore the ethical responsibilities of designers, manufacturers, operators, and regulators of the technology. We specifically focus on the ethical responsibilities surrounding autonomous vehicles that these stakeholders have to protect the safety of non-occupants, meaning individuals who are around the vehicles while they are operating. The term “non-occupants” includes, but is not limited to, pedestrians and cyclists. We are particularly interested in how to assign moral responsibility for the safety of non-occupants when autonomous vehicles are deployed in a complex, land-based transportation system.

This study compares chloride concentrations and a series of corrosiveness indexes to determine whether trends in statewide databases appropriately detect local conditions. Chloride concentrations in local, urban streams generally persist at higher levels than what is typical of natural waters. Data collected for statewide water quality assessments are often at a broader geographical scale. Results and subsequent policies may indicate little to no environmental concern, meanwhile degradation at the local scale remains relatively undetected. Pulses of local snowmelt runoff may violate water quality criteria, but long-term trends measured at the statewide scale are in decline. Results highlight the need for …

Biodiversity conservation in developing countries is faced with many and mounting challenges, including increasing human–wildlife conflicts (HWCs). In Africa and other developing countries, increasing HWCs, particularly those adjacent to protected areas, can adversely affect local stakeholder perceptions and support for conservation. We analyzed HWC reports for multiple wildlife species compiled >23 years (1995–2017) from the Greater Tsavo Ecosystem (GTE) in Kenya to determine HWC trends. The GTE is the largest protected area in Kenya, covering 22,681 km2. Overall, 39,022 HWC incidents were reported in 6 GTE regions (i.e., Taveta, Mutomo, Kibwezi, Rombo, Galana, Bachuma). Designing of parameters plays an important role in economic design of control charts for lowering the cost and time. Manipulating sample size (n) and sampling interval (h), the effect of double exponentially weighted moving average (DEWMA) model was studied for the Economic Design (ED) of X̅ control chart. Optimum sizes and level were obtained when the characteristics of an item possesses DEWMA model. When shifts are uncertain the optimal design for DEWMA chart should be more conservative and should be implemented for benefiting the consumers as well as producers.

New variants of entropy as measures of item-fit in item response theory are investigated. Monte Carlo simulation(s) examine aberrant conditions of item-level misfit to evaluate relative (compare EMRj, X2, G2, S-X2, and PV-Q1) and absolute (Type I error and empirical power) performance. EMRj has utility in discovering misfit.

Logistic Regression Under Sparse Data Conditions, David A. Walker, Thomas J. Smith

Journal of Modern Applied Statistical Methods

The impact of sparse data conditions was examined among one or more predictor variables in logistic regression and assessed the effectiveness of the Firth (1993) procedure in reducing potential parameter estimation bias. Results indicated sparseness in binary predictors introduces bias that is substantial with small sample sizes, and the Firth procedure can effectively correct this bias.
