We present optical ages for quartz and K-feldspar grains extracted from sedimentary deposits above and below Youngest Toba Tuff (YTT) at two localities in the Middle Son Valley (MSV), Madhya Pradesh, India. These ash deposits have been the focus of past palaeoenvironmental investigations that aim to understand the effects of the ~ 74 ka Toba super-eruption on ecosystems and human populations in northern India. Age estimates from both quartz and feldspar grains post-date the Toba eruption and single-grain age distributions suggest that YTT ash-bearing sediments in the MSV are mainly composed of a mixture of recently sun-exposed, flood-transported grains and …

India has one of the world's largest and most significant bodies of rock paintings and engravings, yet not a single rock art site or image has been directly and accurately dated using radiometric techniques. Here we report on results from the Billasurgam Cave complex near Kurnool in southern India. Although this cave complex has been investigated archaeologically since the late 1800s, it was not until 2008 that a large petroglyph, consisting of the remains of three nested diamond designs on a stalactite, was noted. In order to determine if this petroglyph had been made recently, flowstone was sampled from on …

Background: There has been insufficient and contradictory research to date on the impacts of caring for a child with cleft lip/palate. Therefore this pilot study sought to investigate the mental health and quality of life of primary caregivers of children with cleft lip/palate. Materials and Methods: Seventy-nine primary caregivers of children with cleft lip/palate awaiting a surgical procedure in India completed questionnaires to measure their mental health, quality of life, and demographic variables. Results: The results indicated that half of the sample suffered from poor mental health and a reduced quality of life. Overall perceptions of quality of life were …
