This research project examines the use of institutional repositories (IRs) by academic and research institutions in the Czech Republic. Six Czech institutional repositories are examined in context with the open access (OA) movement in the US and Europe in order to identify what goals have been achieved, what challenges lie ahead, and how the IR functions within the academic ecosystem. IR development in the Czech Republic has been driven by a government statute to provide electronic access to theses and dissertations (ETDs), yet five out of the six IRs hold more content than ETDs alone. Santa Clara University and the University of San Francisco are leveraging patron-initiated borrowing data to create a deeper and more browse-able collection in certain subject areas where patrons have shown interest. This same ILL data has also been used to strengthen the meta-collection of our consortium (LINK+) through the intentional and coordinated diversification of approval plan profiles. When we began looking at our patron-initiated borrowing data, we could see that there are call number ranges where one or both universities borrow frequently. In the Spring 2015 issue of Jesuit Higher Education: A Journal, Kimberly Connor described building an Ignatian Pedagogy Faculty Learning Community at the University of San Francisco. One outcome of the FLC was to gather and make easily available a collection of resources on Jesuit education and the IPP (Ignatian Pedagogical Paradigm). Taking library services outside of the library seems to be a growing trend in academic libraries, but is it really? In 2011 Stephan and Scott conducted an online survey of academic libraries to measure how and if off-site reference is being utilized in academic libraries in order to provide a snapshot of current and past off-site reference trends.
