Archival and Primary Source Research (UDI 204) is a one-credit course at the University of Dayton designed to introduce students to the themes of historical empathy, visual literacy, privacy, and silences in the archives. This case study explores the pilot iteration of this mini-course, taught collaboratively with a team of six librarians and archivists. With the intention of furthering the goals of the University Libraries’ strategic plan, the course was developed to move beyond what can be accomplished during a one-shot instructional session in regard to primary source literacy. Why Wikipedia Often Overlooks Stories Of Women In History, Lara Nicosia, Tamar Carroll

Wikipedia's reliance on a volunteer editing base has resulted in a gender bias both in the quantity and quality of content around women. With less than 20% of Wikipedia's editors identifying as women, only 30% of biographical entries have been written about women and entries on women tend to be shorter and more focused on relationships and family roles than entries on men. This article explores the causes of Wikipedia's gender bias and offers ways that both individuals and institutions can help improve Wikipedia's content around women.

Over the past few years the standard “one shot” archives instruction session has been overshadowed in archival literature by a focus on the importance of embedded archivists, as well as emphasis on multiple guided instruction sessions for classes. These innovative techniques offer many advantages but this paper argues that the “one shot” model still holds relevance, especially for small institutions with limited staff sizes. Work on such sessions over the course of a decade have resulted in changes made to this model at the University of Mississippi, and this article discusses these changes and offers both lessons learned and examines …
