Quantifying The Effectiveness Of Night Vision Detection: A Comparative Study Of Visible Light, Night Vision, And Thermal Images, Feng Yeh Oct 2023

Quantifying The Effectiveness Of Night Vision Detection: A Comparative Study Of Visible Light, Night Vision, And Thermal Images, Feng Yeh

USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations

This research presents a comprehensive assessment of night vision goggles and thermal imagers, with a particular emphasis on their performance under a wide range of environmental and temporal conditions. Field testing of these devices was carried out across diverse settings, including daytime, nighttime, and different environmental temperatures. Key evaluation metrics, such as contrast, recognition distance, and image clarity, were employed to assess device performance.

The findings reveal that while night vision goggles maintain consistent performance across various conditions, their image clarity and contrast are influenced by the recognition distance. Conversely, thermal imagers excel in cooler environments, successfully highlighting target objects, …

Gis Application For Evaluation Of Trade And Services Area Development In Serang City, Banten Province, Adam Hastara Aji, Nurina Rachmita, Nurwita Mustika Sari, Benedictus Kushardian

Jurnal Geografi Lingkungan Tropik (Journal of Geography of Tropical Environments)

Trade and service area is an area that facilitates trade transactions and services between people in need (demand side) and people who sell services (supply-side). In determining trade areas and services, SMCE or Spatial Multi-Criteria Evaluation or spatial evaluation techniques consider many different criteria when making decisions. The method used in this paper is SMCE with Weight Overlay technique using four variables, namely roads, slopes, settlements and rivers. Weighting carried out in the analysis was made with various simulations, namely Simulation A with the same weight weighting on each variable 25%, simulation B with dominant weighting on one of the …

What If And What More: Disturbing Habits Of Thought About Playwork ‘Re-Search’, Wendy K. Russell, John Fitzpatrick, Bridget Handscomb

International Journal of Playwork Practice

This short article reports on a presentation given at an International Journal of Playwork Practice seminar in 2018. It describes an approach to evaluating the work of an adventure playground using Participative Action Research and a critical cartographic method for producing documentation that shows the unique nature of playwork.

Improving International Development Evaluation Through Geospatial Data And Analysis, Malte Lech, Juha Ilari Uitto, Sven Harten, Geeta Batra, Anupam Anand Oct 2018

Improving International Development Evaluation Through Geospatial Data And Analysis, Malte Lech, Juha Ilari Uitto, Sven Harten, Geeta Batra, Anupam Anand

International Journal of Geospatial and Environmental Research

Increasing availability of new types of data strengthens geospatial research in different scientific fields and opens up opportunities to better measure results and evaluate the impacts of development interventions. This article presents examples where geospatial approaches have been applied in evaluations and thus demonstrate the potential use in informing policy design through scientifically sound evidence as well as learning.

The authors illustrate innovative ways of employing geospatial data and analysis in impact evaluations of international development cooperation. These interventions are concerned with topics such as biodiversity conservation, land degradation, sustainable use of natural resources, and disaster risk management. Recent methodological …

Development And Evaluation Of A Geographic Information Retrieval System Using Fine Grained Toponyms, Damien Palacio, Curdin Derungs, Ross S. Purves Dec 2015

Development And Evaluation Of A Geographic Information Retrieval System Using Fine Grained Toponyms, Damien Palacio, Curdin Derungs, Ross S. Purves

Journal of Spatial Information Science

Geographic information retrieval (GIR) is concerned with returning information in response to an information need, typically expressed in terms of a thematic and spatial component linked by a spatial relationship. However, evaluation initiatives have often failed to show significant differences between simple text baselines and more complex spatially enabled GIR approaches. We explore the effectiveness of three systems (a text baseline, spatial query expansion, and a full GIR system utilizing both text and spatial indexes) at retrieving documents from a corpus describing mountaineering expeditions, centred around fine grained toponyms. To allow evaluation, we use user generated content (UGC) in the …

Evaluating Emergency Management After An Event: Gaps And Suggestions, Neil Dufty Sep 2013

Evaluating Emergency Management After An Event: Gaps And Suggestions, Neil Dufty

Neil Dufty

Post-event evaluations of emergency management are critical to help emergency service providers and communities learn to build disaster resilience. This paper identifies five main types of formal post-event evaluations of emergency management that are used in Australia. It argues that these evaluations should be more consistent in their conduct and approach, more comprehensive in scope, and better timed. The paper also suggests that post-event evaluation reports should be released particularly to the affected communities.

World Bank Assisted Community Driven Project Implementation In Kwara State, Nigeria: Implication For Sustainable Rural Participatory Development And Community Initiatives, R A. Olawepo, O A. Akanbi

Abuja Journal of Geography and Development

The issue Community Driven Development is presented as tool for effective community development at the grassroots in Kwara State. This paper draws on field research on conservation based field observation in which the authors had to visit some of the project locations to ascertain the availability of the project. Apart from his, the study relies heavily on secondary data obtained from the Kwara State Community Based Poverty Reduction Project’s publications and the recently inaugurated Kwara State Community and Social Development Agency. The study reveals that in the last seven years in the state, over 403, 110, 342.76 Naira has been …
