Gender, Resources, And Wife Abuse In Hong Kong, Adam Ka-Lok Cheung, Susanne Yuk-Ping Choi

Wife abuse is the most common form of violence against women. Using original couple data collected from 871 families in a New Town in Hong Kong, this study examines the interplay between gender role attitudes of husband and resources disparities between husband and wife on wife abuse. Our findings show that compared with women from families where men were the sole providers, women from dual earner families who earned more than their husbands had a greater risk of violence, while women who earned less than their husbands had a lower risk of violence.
