Hiring Domestic Help And Family Well-Being In Hong Kong: A Propensity Score Matching Analysis, Adam Ka-Lok Cheung
Hiring Domestic Help And Family Well-Being In Hong Kong: A Propensity Score Matching Analysis, Adam Ka-Lok Cheung
Adam Ka-Lok Cheung
Outsourcing household tasks has become an important strategy for couples to avert the conflict between work and family roles. There is an increasing trend of domestic outsourcing, including the use of hired domestic help, in post-industrial societies. Despite the increasing popularity of outsourcing domestic tasks, the possible impact of hiring domestic help on family relations remains an important hole in our knowledge. Contributions of hiring domestic help to the employers’ family, such as averting marital conflict and improving marital quality, are often assumed in the literature but are rarely examined with empirical data, especially in a non-western context.

Chih-lung Huang
With the economic globalization, the transformation of post industrialized, and the change of employment pattern, the women’s labor participation is still rising. This phenomenon not only affected the breadwinner model which were shaped by the welfare regime, but also caused the consequence of baby bust and ageing population. A Phenomenolical Study And Meta-Analysis Of Declining Membership And Participation In The Church, Cliffrod E. Jones Jr.
Cliffrod E Jones Jr.
This study seeks to establish a multifactor approach to the problem of declining membership and participation that allows a broader defense against the negative effects of separate causalities. A meta-analysis of past and current study into the phenomenon investigates currently recognized causalities, and forms a grounded basis for the study questions, while personal interviews from a sampling of churches, church leaders and church members provides additional quantitative data for review, comparison, weighting and analysis of the phenomenon.
Radical Love: A Transatlantic Dialogue About Race And Mixed Race
Radical Love: A Transatlantic Dialogue About Race And Mixed Race
Daniel McNeil
Whereas the transracial, transdisciplinary and transnational field of mixed race studies tends to focus on the love between “interracial couples” and their children, this article opens up space for a critical dialogue about how people classified as 'mixed race' in North America and Europe navigate racism, racialization and relationships across time and space.

Research Approach Exploring Integrating Employment And Family Policy: Review Of Policy Objectives For The Population Policy White Paper In Taiwan, Chih-Lung Huang
Chih-lung Huang
One of the main purposes of the Population Policy White Paper in Taiwan is to seek solutions to the baby bust trend. Through strengthening family policy, the Population Policy White Paper in Taiwan tries to satisfy the need for a balance between work and family for women. However, the need is not only concerned with the baby bust problem, but also about the institutional and structural problems on culture and welfare systems under the conventional male breadwinner model. This article will explain the reason why the issue of work and family life balance should consider gender equality. Through the dual …

Designing An Information-Experience Using Creativity Science & Tools, Stephanie Belhomme
Stephanie Belhomme
An “information-experience” encapsulated by a technological/digital audio-visual tool presents data and potentially meaningful information to prompt actionable knowledge concerning: “unspoken creative process elements;” their profound impacts on both how well our “physiology of creativity” functions but also; how well foundational creative thinking and behavioral prerequisites (energy, motivation, imagination, and ownership) are leveraged.
The product: 1) introduces the user to one component of the CPS (Creative Problem Solving) Facilitation Process - Exploring the Challenge; 2) features a content specific component which prompts exploration of the many correlations between societal, organizational / community, human physiological / behavioral data, and the direct relationships …

Stark Voluntary Self-Referral Disclosure Protocol (Srdp) And Stark Law, Kip Klingman
Kip Klingman
When you’ve made a serious mistake, sometimes it is best to step forward and confess before the government regulators find out on their own. The federal Stark Law, governing physician self-referral, provides a mechanism for voluntary disclosing a violation, but using that option requires a carefully crafted game plan.

Role Of Mothers In The Family, Church And Society, Chinedu Chibueze Ihenetu-Geoffrey
Role Of Mothers In The Family, Church And Society, Chinedu Chibueze Ihenetu-Geoffrey
Chinedu Chibueze Ihenetu-Geoffrey
Much of the confusion and misunderstanding with regard to the role of women in the church, family and in society, has to do with the failure of recognizing that the family, like any other institution in society, is influenced by changes taking place in society. The family, like individuals, does not operate in a social vacuum, but in a socio-cultural-historical environment, which changes with time. The role of mothers in today’s world has grown past the traditional and African role of motherhood exemplified by being ‘perpetual housewives’. Their roles now transcend into the society, the church and most importantly, the …

Naming A New Self: Identity Elasticity And Self-Definition In Voluntary Name Changes, Celia Emmelhainz
Naming A New Self: Identity Elasticity And Self-Definition In Voluntary Name Changes, Celia Emmelhainz
Celia Emmelhainz
This article considers how personal name changes are situated within their sociological context in the United States. Reviewing both popular and scholarly texts on names and name changes, I draw on recent work on identity and narrative by Oriana Bernasconi (2011) to argue that voluntary personal name changes are made in relation to a sense of narrative elasticity or identity elasticity, and act symbolically to make a shifting identity or self-narrative manifest in the social context. Drawing out these themes through an exploration of name changes for ethnic self-definition or religious purposes, I conclude with a reflection on the unstable …
Welfare And Foreign Aid Practices In The Contemporary United States: A Governmentalstudy, Philippe Fournier
Welfare And Foreign Aid Practices In The Contemporary United States: A Governmentalstudy, Philippe Fournier
Philippe Fournier
This article aims to expose the main governmental shifts in recent Americanhistory (1961-2000) by examining two programs: the Assistance to Families with DependentChildren (AFDC) and the Agency for International development (US-AID). Through the ex-ploration of primary and secondary sources, we analyse the production, organisation andcirculation of governmental practices in the realms of both domestic and foreign policy. In theAmerican context, practices of government typically revolve around freedom, efficiency mo-dels and individual responsibility. Throughout the analysis, we find that the general critiqueswhich have guided reforms and experiments in both areas converge around the same ele-ments. This testifies to the fact that …

Rethinking Old Age Income Security In Taiwan: With A Discussion Of Pension Reform In The Uk And Germany, Chih-Lung Huang, Shrsyung Chang
Chih-lung Huang
After the amended provisions of the National Pension Act came into effect in October 2008, creating a new retirement system that joined up the existing military personnel, public school teacher, and labor pension schemes as well as individual accounts and farmers' non-contributory welfare subsidies, Taiwan's system of safeguards for economic security in old age was still fragmented but finally covered the whole of the population. Compared with the previous two-track system, with social insurance as the main form and social relief as the subsidiary form of retirement security, the new framework blends and confuses individual savings accounts and new elements …
Adopted Citizens Denied Access To Their Birth Certificates: A Little-Known Civil Rights Issue, Mirah Riben
Adopted Citizens Denied Access To Their Birth Certificates: A Little-Known Civil Rights Issue, Mirah Riben
Mirah Riben
American citizens who were adopted are denied the right to access their own original birth certificates (OBC) in most U.S. states, a right available to all other non-adopted citizens. State regulations denying unrestricted access to one’s own birth certificate that apply only to a segment of the population create a lifelong inequality and violate the civil rights of adopted persons. Outdated state regulations that maintain this discrimination need to be repealed.
Repeal The Seal!, Mirah Riben
Repeal The Seal!, Mirah Riben
Mirah Riben
Instead of introducing legislation to give back rights to adoptees taken from them during the 1940s, the author suggests repealing the state regulations that originally sealed the birth certificates of adoptees.
