The current research explores the significance of the introduction of telephone technology into Saudi Arabia. The problem addressed by the research was to identify and describe the cultural and economic significance that the telephone has had in Saudi Arabia. The purpose of the research was specifically to study the significance that telephone technology has in the three areas of family ties, business, and transportation. The methodology began with the development a data-collection document. An English version of the document was administered as a pilot test to students at the University of Northern Iowa. This study examines the Motion Picture Industry in Jamaica and the impact that video rentals have had on the industry, as well as to predict the impact it may have on it in the future. The purpose of this study was to explore the effects of high fidelity digital voice transmission, some aspects of information processing and the effect of short-term memory and long-term memory on one-way verbal communication. The experiment consisted of one realistic scenario with each of the twenty-four subjects involved recording on paper each of the sixteen Automatic Terminal Information Serice (ATIS) messages that they heard. Each subject heard each message one time, and the listening devices used were changed after four messages. The ATIS message consists of eleven hem groups of information. Low orbiting satellite communication networks will be competing with geosynchronous satellites for a share of the communications market. In world-wide communications that do not require immediate real time transmissions, low orbiting satellites are competitive with geosynchronous satellites because the system is reliable and low in cost.
Since satellites are a clear example of Newtonian laws, the distinct patterns they make in their orbiting process are predictable. Newton's law states that an object will remain in uniform motion unless acted upon by a force: a satellite remains in motion around the earth because there is no atmosphere to slow it down. …

The purpose of this study was to develop two tape-recorded synthetic speech discrimination test tapes and assess their intelligibility in order to determine whether or not synthetic speech was intelligible and if it would prove useful in speech discrimination testing. Four scramblings of the second MU-6 monosyllable word list were generated by the ECHO l C speech synthesizer using two methods of generating synthetic speech called TEXTALKER and SPEAKEASY. These stimuli were presented in one ear to forty normal-hearing adult subjects, 36 females and 4 males, at 60 dB HL under headphone&. Each subject listened to two different scramblings of …

The Independent Professional Point: Use Of A Recorded Musical Story, Entitled The Point, For Teaching English To Speakers Of Other Languages, Robert Stuart Duncan

This project discusses use of The Point, a recorded story of songs and narrations, as a TESOL tool. A brief summary of the story line is provided followed by why the author feels it has valuable TESOL application. Actual case studies, in which The Point was used, plus suggestions towards classroom applications are presented.
The following materials are included: letters to students which introduce The Point; a transcription of the recording; a comic book; a do-it-yourself dictionary; a cassette recording of The Point and an animated film suggestion.
The project encourages creative thinking and creative teaching.

The study of the establishment of a new educational television station not only would reveal the various aspects of its operational status, but also would reveal the initial investment in terms of effort, finance, and gifts that brought it into existence.
