The Utah Newspaper War Of 1968: Liquor-By-The-Drink, Raymond E. Beckham Sr.
The Utah Newspaper War Of 1968: Liquor-By-The-Drink, Raymond E. Beckham Sr.
Theses and Dissertations
A group of Utah citizens, supported by the Salt Lake Tribune, campaigned in May and June of 1968 to change Utah's liquor distribution system from a state-owned package method to one which would allow mixed drinks. Opponents of the change were supported by the Deseret News.
The two newspapers became the spokesmen for the two opposing groups. A careful analysis of them shows that of the 2,844.6 column inches of space in the Tribune, and of the 1,856.2 column inches in the News, exclusive of advertising, more than eight per cent in each newspaper supported the …

Honors Projects
The undeniable affect of radio on the nation's economy, social structure, attitudes and behavior, not to mention marketing, business and industry, and the entertainment field has been great. But the modern broadcaster has a rather unique problem-- a problem of communication. All of the national effects of radio have caused the broadcaster to constantly review and update his knowledge in legal and social areas of developaent, as well as technical advancement. Since change occurs so rapidly and so often in all three, the communication problem becomes even more acute. Broadcast texts of five years ago , for instance, only predicted …

Publications
The survey of projects was initiated by Miss Kessler, who located sources pertaining to work-orientation in the junior high school, remedial programs for drop-outs, and programs in which language skills were taught in the context of teaching units and courses in occupations. A form was mailed to various cities to obtain curricula and reports on projects.
During the summer of 1968, the author read 200 articles, curricula and project reports in an effort to gain insights into objectives, activities and evaluations of work-orientation programs. The result of this survey will be reported in three sections: (1) concepts of work-orientation; (2) …

The Effects Of Ego-Involvement And Fear Appeals Upon Task Performance, Stephen Steinmetz
The Effects Of Ego-Involvement And Fear Appeals Upon Task Performance, Stephen Steinmetz
Masters Theses
Researchers and scholars in the fear appeal area have been unable to determine what factor or factors make fear appeals effective. Two studies, Hewgill and Miller (1965) and Powell (1965), suggest that the personal involvement of the audience with who or what is threatened is the factor which causes fear appeals to be effective. If ego-involvement is the personal involvement factor indicated by these studies, then it would appear to be the key to fear appeal effectiveness. Therefore, the present investigation was designed to experimentally compare the effects of ego-involvement and fear appeals upon task performance.
Sixty nine undergraduates enrolled …
